Summary: Responsible for repairing machinery throughout the plant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include but are not limited to the following (Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time):

  • Dismantle, repair and reassemble malfunctioning or broken equipment, including but not limited to fans, turbines, boilers, cooling towers, process equipment, general plant equipment, conveyor systems, forklifts, trucks, and tanks, using hand tools, power and pneumatic tools, chain falls, and jacks.

  • Inspect or test damaged machine parts, and mark defective areas or advise supervisors of repair needs.

  • Start machines and observe mechanical operation to determine efficiency and to detect problems.

  • Read work orders and specifications to determine machines and equipment requiring repair or maintenance.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on and lubricate equipment.

  • Maintain and lubricate machine and hand tools.

  • Communicate with machine operators and other maintenance workers to troubleshoot identified problems.

  • Complete required permits including lock-out tag-out, sanitation, line-breaking, confined spaces, and hot work.

  • Perform welding, including Stick, MIG, Plasma cutter, and oxygen/acetylene torch, in flat, vertical or overhead positions to repair or modify machinery and equipment.

  • Prepare rigging.

  • Prepare paperwork associated with job assignment, job status, and job completion including Work Orders, timesheets, permits and preventive maintenance checklist.

  • Operate fork lift, cherry picker, skid loader, come along, and scissor/ aerial lift .

  • Mentor/train new maintenance employees.

  • Work well with others

  • Be qualified at the Electrician C level

  • Perform lock-out tag-out

  • Must work a 12 hour shift

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education and/or Experience : A high school diploma or GED is required.

  • Welding experience is preferred.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Constant walking throughout the plant to move from one task to the next.

  • Stand for short periods of time to observe the work of others and plan approach to immediate task.

  • Sit for approximately 30 minutes a day preparing job tickets and other paperwork.

  • Bend or crouch throughout the work shift to work on machinery

  • Work in confined spaces.

  • Lift up to 80 pounds and moves item short distances. Frequently lifts heavier items with the assistance of one or more co-workers.

  • Reach in all directions to grab tools and make adjustments to equipment.

  • Climb ladders and flights of stairs between floors of the building multiple times a day.

  • Perform fine hand and finger movements to hold tools appropriately and make precise adjustments to equipment.

  • Oral communication – clearly communicate job-related information to co-workers and supervisors before, during and after repairs.

  • Seeing – visually inspect machinery and equipment requiring repair or maintenance. Visually analyze progress and results.

  • Reading – read and understand complex vendor manuals, P&IDs, equipment schematics and blue prints.

  • Written communication – write in understandable English to complete required paperwork and provide information needed by subsequent shift workers, coworkers and supervisors.

  • Listening – understand oral job-related information and instructions received from coworkers and supervisors. Listen to machinery to detect problems.

  • Environmental conditions in different parts of the plant can include extreme heat and cold, wet and humid conditions, noise, vibration, exposure to dust and poor ventilation.

  • Hazardous conditions include moving parts, potential electrical shock, and slick floors.

  • PPE including hard hat, steel-toed shoes with meta-tarsal guards, safety glasses, chemical resistant gloves, fall protection harness, welding hood, welding gloves, welding apron, and ear plugs are utilized at various times.
