Description Join Maize South Elementary School as an extension of the school social workers.

The School Social Work (SW) Interventionist provides school-based interventions under the

direction and supervision of a licensed staff member. The SW Interventionist supports the

instructional program within assigned classroom(s) with specific responsibility for assisting in the

supervision and instruction of students who are behaviorally challenged in general and special

education classrooms. The SW Interventionist is responsible for observing and documenting

student progress; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior

during non-classroom time; assisting students by providing for special health care needs; and

attending meetings, as scheduled.

Use the following ratings to evaluate each function:

1. Provide support and guidance to certificated staff, and other classroom support staff,

bymodeling and reinforcing behavioral support strategies in accordance with a

studentsemotional support plans

2. Model desired behaviors (e.g. conversation, manners, cleaning activities,

listening,everyday interactions, etc.) for students supporting appropriate social behavior

in aculturally sensitive manner.

3. Coach students in communication, self-control, and cooperation.

4. Reinforce a students communication, self-control, and cooperation skills.

5. Utilize positive behavior support strategies to assist in the prevention of and response to

acute student behaviors.

6. Utilize appropriate strategies to assist in de-escalating student behaviors, as needed.

7. Communicate with a variety of individuals (e.g. supervising instructional

staff,professional support personnel, etc.) for the purpose of implementing IEP objectives

and assisting in evaluating progress.

8. Assist certificated staff with the collection of data, implementation and/or writing of

behavioral support plans or strategies, and evaluating their effectiveness, as assigned.

9. Provide supervised instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities

(e.g. academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of

reinforcinginstructional objectives, implementing IEP plans, and ensuring student success

in school.

10. Monitor student and district staff responses in instructional settings during which the

student exhibits undesired behaviors for the purpose of tracking behaviors, developing

alternative interventions, and decreasing undesired behaviors.

11. Maintain confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state, and federal

laws.

12. Perform other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the safe, effective, and

efficient functioning of the school.

Minimum Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Familiar with technology and software applications

Ability to perform basic math including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios

Ability to organize work, set priorities, and meet deadlines

Knowledge of appropriate codes, policies, regulations, and laws

Knowledge of instructional procedures and practices; age appropriate student activities; conflict

resolution; stages of child development and behavior; basic disabilities; and behavioral

management strategies

Ability to gather, collate, and/or classify data

Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Education, Certification

High School diploma or equivalent

Some college hours are preferred

Experience

Job related experience is desired

Previous work with children recommended
