r*About This Role*
The department of Civil Engineering at Kansas State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date in Fall 2025. The department is particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to the teaching and research mission of the department and university in the broad area of water resources engineering.
This position is one of several water-related thematic team hires that will join K-State. Each of these positions will hold a scholarly connection to the Kansas Water Institute and will join an interdisciplinary cohort of water-related faculty with the opportunity to collaborate on research, teaching, and engagement. The Kansas Water Institute develops and supports interdisciplinary research, teaching, and engagement on high-priority water resource problems and objectives identified through the state water plan. The Institute also facilitates effective communication among water resource professionals and works to share and apply research results.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate strong interest, relevant expertise, and stewardship in one or more of the following areas:
- Energy efficient transmission and transport of water and/or wastewater in closed loop or open channel systems in the built and/or natural environments, with preferable wet lab research experience to address this challenge. Any AI/ML efforts to augment this research is welcome but viewed as a secondary interest.
- Low energy footprint and smart collection systems (including lift stations) within a water/wastewater system.
- Treated wastewater or reclaimed water for direct or indirect potable purposes, including decarbonized desalination of finite water sources such as aquifers (Ogallala in this case) or other surface water sources.
- Drinking water distribution system rehabilitation from materials perspective and/or alternate disinfectant paradigms for the future.
The successful candidate will demonstrate both passion for teaching courses such as hydraulic engineering, open channel hydraulics, and also strong ability to interface with hydrogeology and surface water and environmental quality research already ongoing at K-State.
