rAbout This Role:

The Richard L. D. and Marjorie J. Morse Department of Archives and Special Collections at Kansas State University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of digital resources archivist. This full-time, tenure-track faculty position reports to the head of archives and special collections and leads efforts to preserve and provide access to born-digital and digitized content at the Libraries. The person in this role advises Libraries\' colleagues and university personnel on strategies and best practices relative to creating, preserving and providing access to digital resources.

This position requires demonstrated knowledge of theories and practices related to digital archives, as well as an understanding of accepted standards and best practices for digitization and associated metadata. Further, this position requires effective communication skills and application of project management concepts while working with colleagues and users of special collections. The archivist must possess excellent interpersonal skills to build and develop productive working relationships with colleagues and diverse stakeholder communities. Additionally, this position requires demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills in an environment requiring attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

Operating the Butler Digitization Lab and supervising student workers, the incumbent implements the digital program plan, facilitates the digital projects working group, coordinates web archiving activities and represents K-State in the Kansas Archive-It Consortium (KAIC). This position collaborates with Libraries\' colleagues to ensure digital objects are available to meet instruction, reference and exhibit needs. The archivist also works with the department head to assess staffing, facility, technology and financial resource needs, and to implement plans to meet those needs.

Worksite Options:

This position is required to be performed on-site. Work is performed on employer premises or designated assignment location.

What You\'ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theories and practices related to digital archives and digitization, including creation, ingest, metadata, preservation, access and discovery.
  • Familiarity with tools, workflow implementation, digital object management and/or quality assurance for digital archives and digitization, including forensic technologies, web archiving tools, digital capture equipment and software applications for post-production.
  • Experience applying standards and schema for descriptive, structural and/or preservation metadata, such as DACS, Dublin Core, EAC-CPF, EAD, MARC, MODS, METS, PREMIS or RDA.
  • Successful project management skills.
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills to build and develop productive working relationships with colleagues and diverse stakeholder communities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate-level coursework in archival subjects (including digital archives) or concentration in archival administration.
  • Digital Archives Specialist certification from the Society of American Archivists.
  • Successful grant-writing experience.
  • Knowledge of laws and ethics that inform digital archives and digitization activities in a higher education environment, such as acquisition, providing access and intellectual property.
  • At least three years of experience in a cultural heritage environment.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

Assistant professor tenure-track rank: \$55,000-\$65,000 annually.

Associate professor tenure-track rank: \$65,000-\$75,000 annually.
