The Crisis Center, Inc. is accepting applications for Hotline Advocates. Hotline Advocates answer calls and texts to the local and statewide crisis hotlines, providing callers with support, validation, safety planning, resources, and referrals. Hotline Advocates are stationed in the Crisis Centers safe shelter for victims of sexual and domestic violence and their children. Hotline Advocates are on duty outside of the Crisis Centers regular business hours (nights, weekends, and holidays). Regular Hotline Advocate shifts are: Monday through Friday 5:00pm-10:30pm, Saturday and Sunday 9:00am-5:00pm and 5:00pm-10:30pm. There may occasionally be shifts outside of the regular shifts, as needed.

Specific Duties:

  • Answer calls to the hotline within two rings and answer texts within 2 minutes.
  • Document all calls and texts thoroughly.
  • Coordinate with Staff On-Call when local callers are requesting shelter or need more resources or services than Hotline Advocates can provide.
  • Communicate with Shelter Staff when unable to answer the phone during shift.

Requirements: Ability to work with diverse populations in a non-judgmental and professional manner; ability to work with people from underserved communities; ability to effectively communicate by phone and text in a respectful and professional manner; ability to remain calm during crisis or emergency situations; ability to maintain strict confidentiality; bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Must understand and maintain healthy professional boundaries with all clients with the ability to separate personal life from professional responsibilities. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and written. Successful completion of provided training is required. Must be able to pass child abuse and criminal background checks. Must be capable of lifting and carrying 20 - 30 pounds. All Hotline Advocates are expected to work some weekends and holidays, and be scheduled at least one shift per pay period (15 days).

Compensation: \$16.00/ hour

Employment Status: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt
