Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Laundry Technician in Manhattan, Kansas

Summary As a Laundry Technician you will perform duties and tasks related to laundry services at the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF). Responsibilities The duties may include, but are not limited to: Receives e-mail or work order request through an automated database/computer system for laundry service of biosafety level (BSL)-3 and BSL-4 laboratory clothing. Sorts soiled laundry by kind of clothing in order to determine the type of laundry treatment to be given each group. Places articles in washer drum in amounts not to exceed the load capacity. Removes laundry from washing machine, puts in carts and pushes to extractor. Inspects clothing and other articles for missing buttons, tears, and worn cuffs, collars, and facings. Sorts laundered clothing by individual person, folds garments and places in cart for distribution. Maintains stores of soaps, chemicals, starches, and other laundry supplies. Assigns lockers and locks inside and outside of containment to new hire employees. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify, you must show you have had training and experience of sufficient scope and quality to provide you with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. When assessed through a score-based category rating method, CTAP/ICTAP applicants must receive a rating of at least 85 out of a possible 100. First time hires to the federal government normally start at the lowest rate of the salary range for the grade selected. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. Any travel, transportation, and relocation expense associated with reporting for duty will be the responsibility of the selected employee.
