rAbout This Role:

The Payroll Specialist (Human Capital Specialist II) is responsible for the payroll administration of the University's local agency affiliates and assists with the processing of wages for University Employees while maintaining compliance with Federal, Local, State, and University guidelines.





+ Responsible for the payroll administration of the University's local agency affiliates (about 1,000 employees).



+ Collect and verify data from departments and individual employees; process, produce and distribute paychecks; determine and process all retroactive corrections to paychecks (over-payments, underpayments, deduction changes); remit all deductions to vendors and taxing authorities, and produce and distribute employer's quarterly tax returns and employee's annual W-2 statements.



+ Process the direct deposit (ACH) errors.



+ Collect and verify data from departments and individual employees, process. Paychecks, and process some retroactive corrections to paychecks (over-payments and u Retroactive funding transfer administrator for the University's local agency affiliates and selected other colleges.



+ Collect and verify data from the departments; assist departmental accountants to identify and resolve funding transfers; process funding transfers; interface the transfers to the University's payroll and accounting systems and the State of Kansas's accounting system.

+ Monitor the insurance bills of the Kansas State Student Union (KSSU).



+ Reconcile bills with paycheck deductions; consult with KSSU human resources administrators and with insurance vendors to identify and correct billing errors; update the University's payroll system and process paycheck corrections as needed.



+ Payroll administrator for the University's summer reserve program for 9-month faculty. Assist faculty to determine how much to reserve from paychecks during the academic year (the reserve is refunded during the summer when 9-month faculty do not receive a paycheck.



+ Payroll liaison for the University's local agency affiliates and other colleges and departments. Answer payroll questions for departmental accountants and payroll/personnel support staff, and individual employees; assist departmental staff to identify and solve problems.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:





+ Associates degree and one year of relevant payroll experience



+ The position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager





Preferred Qualifications:





+ Bachelor's degree



+ Working knowledge of payroll best practices



+ 1 - 2 years' experience of functional payroll processing experience



+ Strong work ethics and team player



+ Ability to deal sensitively in a confidential manner



+ Decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills



+ Organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills



+ 3-5 years of experience processing multi-state payroll



+ Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations



+ Working knowledge of Timekeeping (i.e., E-time, Time Clocks, Kronos) and HRIS systems (i.e., PeopleSoft, ADP, Ultimate Software).



+ Strong PC skills including proficiency in Excel.



+ Certified Payroll Professio
