About This Role:

The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Veterinary Nurse in the Triage Call Center. This position is responsible for providing the appropriate service for calls coming into the VHC from patient appointments and consultations. The hospital mission includes providing quality medical services to clients and training for professional veterinary students. The Triage Nurse must provide services in a professional manner and are the first impression and establish the initial contact with the caller.

What You\'ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of a two-year college program in veterinary and animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, diseases, and symptoms
  • Ability to multitask in a high-stress environment at an advanced level
  • Advanced knowledge of veterinary terminology, advanced medical procedures, and a clear understanding of veterinary emergencies
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a stressful situation
  • Ability to prioritize and recognize the most effective & efficient process to accomplish the daily workflow
  • Adaptable to different computer systems/advanced computer skills
  • Ability to answer multiple phone lines
  • Must be registered as a paraprofessional under the Kansas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners within six months of employment

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
  • New hires must obtain a Kansas license as a Veterinary Technician within six months of employment.
  • Position frequently involves light work. It is occasionally necessary to perform medium to heavy work associated with transporting, pushing, or pulling of animals and /or equipment. Must be physically able to handle, restrain, and provide medical treatments to domestic animals. Must be able to monitor heart sounds (hearing) through a stethoscope, monitor patient vital signs on a TV screen and /or medical monitors (sight), insert catheters, syringe needles, etc. (finger dexterity) as prescribed, and express instructions quickly (talking) in emergency situations.
