\ \ Website & Digital Communications Specialist\ \ Department: 3670010110 Plant Pathology\ Job no: 516447\ Employment type: Staff Full Time (Unclassified - Term)\ Location: Manhattan, Kansas\ Worksite: On-site requirement\ Categories: Administrative / Professional, Communications / Public Relations / Marketing, Graphic Design / Printing / Publishing\ Pay Grade: 08A\ \ \ About This Role:\ The Communications and Marketing Specialist is primarily responsible for supporting marketing and communications for the Departments of Agronomy, Horticulture & Natural Resources, and Plant Pathology. These initiatives include, but are not limited to: keeping department websites updated and organized, leading departmental social media strategies and implementation, supporting the development and dissemination of digital and print department newsletters and recruitment materials, and supporting internal and external news releases.\ \ Duties include:

  • Develop marketing materials, newsletters, and social media content for the Departments of Agronomy, Horticulture & Natural Resources, and Plant Pathology, all located within the Throckmorton Plant Sciences Center building on the main KSU campus.
  • Maintain and update departmental websites by maintaining the news section of the websites, finalizing news announcements and articles for the departmental websites, and updating other sections of the website as needed to support key initiatives.
  • Collaborate with departments to support communication efforts associated with recruitment and retention for our educational programs
  • Create designs, concepts and layouts based on knowledge of layout principles and esthetic design concepts. Maintain a strong knowledge of print, web, social media and HTML email design principles and keep up with current design trends and technology.
  • Provide design support and graphics for any materials needed for department activities, events and special projects as directed by the Department Heads.
  • Liaise and collaborate with university, college, Foundation, professional societies, and/or Alumni administrative and communication staff to ensure communications align with strategic goals of department, college and university and reach diverse audiences.
  • Maintain an understanding of target audience(s), market, distribution methods, and trends.

  • Requires a bachelor\'s degree in a related field (ex. Graphic design, art, journalism, advertising, marketing, hospitality management) or a minimum of 4 years of work experience as determined relevant by a hiring manager.

\ Preferred Qualifications:

1-5 years of graphic design or communications experience

Knowledge or experience using Adobe Creative Suite - primarily Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator or equivalent programs or tools.

Knowledge of UI/UX (user experience/user interface) design and web best practices.
