Marion County EMS is accepting applications for a Kansas Certified Paramedic. We are seeking highly motivated
and dedicated professionals to join our team. We are a progressive service providing both ALS and BLS units with a
combination of full time and volunteer stations.
Our EMS professionals enjoy receiving a very competitive wage and benefit package. Obtaining 144 hours of sick
leave and 144 hours of vacation a year. In house continuing education with opportunities for out-of-house education.
We are able to utilize Zoll vents, Lucas devices as well as RSI capabilities. Excellent BC/BS plans with KPERS
retirement. Our team operates on a 48/96 rotation with an annual call volume of 1200 calls. There are no residency or
on call requirements.

Department: Emergency Medical Services
Reports To: Emergency Medical Service Director
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Emergency Medical Service Director, the Paramedic is a non-
exempt position under the FLSA. The employee in this position must be able to deliver Basic Life
Support procedures. This position is responsible for being proficient in providing emergency
medical care to the victim(s), and take action to prevent unnecessary patient suffering or injury.
The employee in this position may perform all functions found under the heading of EMR, EMT,
and A-EMT. The paramedic also needs to have a good basic knowledge of state and federal
regulations and requirements for ambulance services and personnel, as well as knowledge of
current HIPAA requirements.
Essential Functions
? Monitor IV fluids and drips which include (with/without medications being added) normal
saline, D5W, lactated ringers, and blood or blood by products;
? Deliver advanced life support procedures are to include initiate intravenous therapy, gastric
suctioning by intubation, endotracheal intubation, and intraosseous infusion;
? Administer parenteral injections of any of the following classes of drugs anti-arrhythmic
agents, vagolytic agents, chronotropic agents, analgesic agents, alkalinizing agents, and
vasopressor agents;
? Perform invasive techniques which include needle thoracostomy, cricothyrotomy, EZ I/O, and
intraosseous infusion;
Marginal Functions
? Monitors service and personnel for compliance with state and federal regulations;
? Maintains patient confidentiality responsible for keeping all medical records confidential;
? Familiar with HIPAA Privacy Act for Patients and crew members
? Other related duties as deemed necessary or as assigned;

Minimum Position Requirements
Experience: One to two years of medical experience is preferred.
Education: Paramedic certified. Associates degree but not required.
Skills: Knowledge of EMS equipment. Good working knowledge of medical terminology.
Good communication skills. The ability to receive, understand, carry out, and communicate
oral and written instructions. The ability to read maps and drive an emergency vehicle to
site locations. Needs basic knowledge of state and federal regulations and requirements for
ambulance services and personnel. Willingness to do what is reasonably necessary to keep
a unit/crew in operation. Requires a valid Kansas drivers license. Knowledge of HIPAA
regulations regarding patient privacy and billing. Ability to deal with public. Must be self-
motivated; be able to be spontaneous, versatile, and able to work independently.
Problem Solving: Day to day problem solving exists in this position. Problems include
dealing with public and unforeseen vehicle emergencies. Must be willing to do what is
ne cessary to keep all units in service. Must have an idea of what the Director would want
done in a situation and be willing to take the necessary action should the need arise.
Occasional after hours time is necessary to do this.
Decision-Making: Day to day decision making exists in this position.
Accountability: Employee is responsible for keeping all medical records confidential.
Employee is accountable for Marion County property and safe operations of vehicles.
Employee is not responsible for budgetary control of the department.
Supervision: Limited supervision is provided by the EMS Director. Employee is under
direct supervision of the EMS Shift Supervisor. When the Shift Supervisor is not present,
the highest trained individual would have limited supervision over his/her partner.
Personal Relations: Continual contact with other county departments, the general public,
and ambulance crew members.
