Summary

CHS has an exciting opportunity at our Oil Refinery facility in McPherson, KS. We are looking for an Instrument Maintenance Supervisor to ensure the safety, quality, and efficiency of maintenance work execution in the refinery. You must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as the ability to build relationships with vendors and employees at all levels of the organization. A commitment to safety, environment, and teamwork are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Maintenance Craftspeople in the performance of their work, both in the shop and in assigned area in the field.

  • Act as the owner of the Relief Valve Repair Process.

  • Ensure the safety of personnel involved in maintenance work execution & demonstrate a high level of safety values.

  • Analyze work situations requiring work permits and ensure that proper permits are in place prior to work execution beginning.

  • Ensure craft workers and you follow established policies and procedures.

  • Accountable for craft backlog, assign jobs to craftspeople and keep advised of work progress.

  • Maintain efficient utilization of labor resources and issued materials.

  • Ensure that all Instrument Shop personnel are regulatory compliant with current applicable regulations and codes.

  • Train and upgrade the skills of assigned personnel; ensure crafts workers and self are familiar with and understand maintenance procedures relevant to that craft.

  • Manage the inspection, certification and general upkeep of specialized electrical tools, test equipment and PPE.

  • Oversee and inspect completed jobs to ensure work has been done properly and plant equipment is safe to operate.

  • Coordinate with the planning and scheduling department for input on job plans and the work schedule.

  • Coordinate with inspection and engineering department for input on repair scope. Determine repair vs replace at component and equipment levels.

  • Evaluate course of action in non-routine situations. Identify and requisition tools and equipment necessary for Maintenance Crafts to perform their work.

  • Ensure tools, PPE, and equipment used by Maintenance Crafts are maintained in proper working condition.

  • Ensure that a proper inventory of frequently used or critical instrument materials and parts are available.

  • Input maintenance notes from Instrument Shop personnel and/or contractors into the CMMS.

  • Prepare annual department budget for instrumentation equipment requiring capital budget replacement or upgrades.

  • Provide input to preventive maintenance programs and reliability improvement efforts.

  • Function as a cooperative and positive member of a cross-functional team.

  • Supervise the electrical shop in the absence of the Electrical Shop Supervisor.

  • Perform other duties as requested or necessary.

Minimum Qualifications (required)

  • High school diploma or GED

  • 2+ years of related refinery instrumentation experience

Additional Qualifications

  • 5+ years of related refinery instrumentation maintenance experience

  • 1+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience

  • Instrument or electrical training or experience

  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)

  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees

Actual pay offered will vary based on multiple factors which may include, without limitation, experience, education, training, specialized skills and certifications.
