MULVANE SCHOOL DISTRICT

JOB DESCRIPTION HEALTH ROOM AIDE

Purpose: The School Healthroom Aide assists the School Nurse in coordinating health room services to ensure and safeguard the

health of students and staff.

Responsible to: Assigned School Nurse

Classification: Non-Exempt

Payment rate: According to Classified Salary Schedule

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made). Maintain current TB testing

as required by Health Department regulations.

3. Ability to lift 30 pounds.

4. Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.

5. CPR/First Aide Certified.

Essential Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Responsible accommodations may

1. Evaluates, maintains and updates the student immunization, emergency and health records.

2. Administers first aid and takes vital signs.

3. Cares for and monitors ill pupils and communicates with parents.

4. Assists in identifying at-risk students.

5. Maintains a log of students who come into the Health Office.

6. Documents students receiving direct services, special education.

7. Administers medication.

8. Communicates with families of targeted students.

9. Assists with health screening and health education programs.

10. Records on health records and computer, vision, hearing, screening test results and other health information.

11. Assists the R.N. with special physical health service care.

12. Under the direction of the RN, performs specialized physical health care & procedures with may include, but are not limited

to screenings for pediculosis.

13. Follows District policy regarding suspected child abuse.

14. Maintains and updates Staff emergency contact information.

15. Updates blood born pathogen video for staff.

16. Maintains the Health Office Inventory and orders supplies when necessary.

17. Notification to parents of student exposure to communicable diseases.

18. Computer input; Answers phone, routes and make telephone calls in the Health Office.

19. Completes accident reports as directed.

20. Ability to ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.

21. Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.

22. Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.

23. Ability to operate all equipment appropriately as required.

24. Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

1. Must work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.

2. Requires stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and turning.

3. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.

4. Must work in and around fumes and odors.

General Responsibilities:

1. Ability to be responsible for the daily operation of the health room, including but not limited to the ordering of supplies,

being involved in the daily distribution of medications, and assisting where needed.

2. Ability to practice procedures in healthcare, use and care of equipment and personal habits to be sure sanitation standards are

met.

3. Ability to fol low standards of safety.

4. Ability to work with administration.

5. Ability to keep accurate record of all student health records.

6. Ability to work with principals and administration.

7. Ability to participate in implementing cost-containment measures while maintaining quality.

8. Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.

9. Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.

10. Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.

11. Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens

Exposure Control Plan.

12. Ability to perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by school district administration.
