JOB DESCRIPTION SPEECH LANGUAGE PARA
Purpose: Assist speech-language pathologist staff in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech-language pathology services
for a variety of students with communication disorders.
Responsible to: Supervising Speech-Language Pathologist
Classification: Non-Exempt
Payment rate: Para Professional Pay Schedule
Qualifications:
1. Possess a High School Diploma.
2. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made).
3. Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
4. Basic knowledge of word processing
5. Communication skills adequate for the task assigned.
6. Ability to relate to the student population being served.

1. Provide direct treatment to identified students; prepare work areas and materials for use during speech and language sessions.
2. Provide speech services to students with moderate to severe communication disorders in general education settings, small group
special education settings and one-on-one special education settings.
3. Accompany students to and from therapy sessions and/or prepare for speech-language session.
4. Maintain comprehensive records and materials relating to screening, evaluation, and therapy results and provides information to
certified staff.
5. Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by Speech Language Pathologist; document and report childs
progress toward meeting established goals as stated in IEP (Individualized Education Plan).
6. Assist speech-pathologist staff during assessment of children; maintain confidentiality of information pertaining to all children
and their families.
7. Schedule activities, prepare a variety of materials including charts, graphs, and other data to display information; provide
recordkeeping for client files and perform related office support tasks (this includes making copies, filing, sorting etc.)
8. Maintain and clean equipment using infection control protocol; check and maintain equipment in proper working condition.
9. Attend in-service training and other related activities as requested by SLP, principal and district administration.
10. Participate in classroom activities as requested by speech-language pathology staff.
11. Perform related duties as assigned.
12. Be able to assume therapy duties from the SLP in a moments notice.
13. Be able to work with children in small and large groups with varying degrees of disabilities and behavior issues.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
1. Must work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous interruptions.
2. Requires stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and turning.
3. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
Language Skills:
1. Ability to read and interpret written information related to Speech Therapy as provided.
2. Ability to write basic reports and general correspondence.
3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators and staff.
