Principal Scientist, Beverage Applications (Job Number: 194616W-01)


The Principle Scientist Beverage Applications is an important role within Innovation NAFTA. It would be responsible for connecting with key customers and ensuring smooth communication with them on strategic initiatives. This position requires a combination of technical knowledge in area of product innovation and excellent program management skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops new ingredient solutions (powders and liquids) that are scalable to industrialization and fit for purpose in applications

  • Keeps internal Ingredient Know-How up-to-date through training sessions, coaching (project) teams and individuals

  • Manages and transfers technical information within the R&D/Innovation and Sales teams (supported with up to date systems and documentation)

  • Manage beverage ingredient solutions projects to ensure on time and on target delivery

  • Represents DuPont N&H ingredient solutions Expertise in external forums, industry associations, academia, customers

  • Subject matter expert to customers and sales related to use of DuPont N&H’s ingredients, application guidelines, formulations, production methods, troubleshooting, etc.

  • Challenges and provides guidance to technology and application leads in developing the right capabilities and methodologies, development of technology strategies and external expertise identification

  • Lead projects using best practices for project management along with the ability to transition products from development to production/operations.

  • Ensure project goals are accomplished on schedule, within budget, and are successfully completed.

  • Build insights based on development learnings that can be used to accelerate customer development timelines.

  • Develop well supported recommendations on formulation next steps based on results analytic evaluations.

  • Communicate to stakeholders regularly by sharing information, creating technical reports and delivering presentations

  • Participate in meetings as a knowledgeable senior team member

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in R&D/Product Development/Technical Service with a focus on food and beverage applications.

  • Master’s Degree or above in Food Science, Food Engineering, Chemistry or a related technical field

  • Experience in a larger corporate setting, proven track record of sound fundamental business practices.

  • Experience with food ingredients preferred and proven ability to foster and build strategic vendor partnerships and customer relationships.

  • Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Formulation development knowledge of beverages liquid or powder.

  • Proven ability to interpret scientific data, including sensory and analytical, and commercialization
