POSITION SUMMARY:
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the nursing care of the patients and is to be clinically competent; the delivery of care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention / implementation, and evaluation; and effectively interacts with patients, families, and health team members while maintaining standards of professional nursing.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Graduate from accredited program of nursing education; BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree preferred but not required; current Registered Nurse license with Kansas State Board of Nursing required
Minimum Experience: Two years in psychiatric nursing preferred
Must maintain Kansas State licensure and appropriate CEUs
Must remain current with CPR license
Must remain current with CPI training
Must have good command of the English language; must be able to read, communicate clearly and therapeutically with patients and staff, both verbally and in writing, in a professional manner
Must have the ability to quickly access data, assimilate printed and electronic information, make decisions and judgements in emergent situations, and respond appropriately.
Must be able to observe and interact in a positive, nonjudgmental, nonreactive manner with patients, family members, patient caregivers, and staff
Must be able to observe patient demeanor and nonverbal communication for assessment purposes
Must have knowledge about medications and their side effects, or at least the ability to obtain the information quickly.
Must be self directed and able to work independently
Must be willing to have some flexibility in scheduling, to meet patient and organization needs
Must be able to stand (agile) and to sit at a desk for periods of up to two hours
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Must be able to kneel, bend, squat, and hold on to a person, in order to restrain an out of control patient
Must be able to communicate effectively with referral sources and other treatment providers
Must be proficient at basic keyboarding / word processing skills
