Foundry Manufacturing Engineer

Positions Supervised :  None                                                                                                                                                            

Position Summary

The Foundry Manufacturing Engineer will work on site to develop new designs and ideas for multiple areas of foundry production including but not limited to core making, molding, pouring, grinding, and assembly. This position will be responsible for the development and production of foundry tooling (castings, patterns, core boxes, grinding fixtures), automated cell programming, casting and tooling cost estimates, and capital project implementation. Our engineering team works closely with production to support and improve our day-to-day operations.

  Primary Responsibilities

  • Design foundry tooling (patterns, core boxes, grinding fixtures etc.)

  • Develop 3-D models and 2-D prints (Solidworks)

  • Design gating and risers required to produce quality castings

  • Preform pre and post analysis of casting simulation results

  • Drive and implement process improvements for production

  • Providing technical support including problem solving, and brainstorming with customers in designing parts and converting fabrications

  • Design machining and grinding fixtures

  • Assist in the development and programming of robotic grinding cells and CNC equipment

  • Work closely with engineering and production personnel to solve technical problems

  • Responsible for quality and economically conscious designs

  • Provide casting and tooling cost estimates for quoting purposes

  • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or similar field of study

  • 3-D CAD education and/or experience (Solidworks, Mastercam, MAGMA)

  • Strong understanding of green sand processes and ductile iron castings

  • Strong understanding of CNC machining & programming

  • Knowledge of production tooling design

  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and work as a team as part of a larger project  

  • Self-starting, multitasking, critical thinking, teamwork, results-oriented.
