Grain Origination Sales Associate Position:

Cargill’s Agricultural Supply Chain – North America (CASC NA) connects agricultural producers to food, feed and industrial customers through the supply chain. We help our customers contend in the global market and efficiently deliver products from origins to destinations through our marketing, sourcing, originating, storing, trading, consulting and processing of grain, oilseeds and sustainable agriculture products and solutions. CASC NA business reaches across Canada, United States & Mexico with an expansive asset footprint including over 200 grain elevators, export/import facilities, oilseed crush plants and biodiesel facilities.

We provide a training program to prepare you to become a specialist in grain origination and learn the sale of various grain marketing solutions, and position regenerative agriculture practices to growers. To accomplish this, you will train with other employees from various job functions to develop long-term relationships with identified customers, working both over the phone and face-to-face with grain producers on the farm. You will gain hands-on experience by working on various projects in the agricultural sales and marketing area and by shadowing fellow employees from other areas. Associates will help farmers improve their usage of our full range of products, address customer problems and craft new opportunities.

Your Work:

40%: Role Training and Skills Development

A mixture of classroom, group, and individual training to intimately learn the grain industry, our North American grain business, and the individual position details to be successful in your own grain origination territory. Also, training and practice to develop the needed sales process and skills to be a successful sales professional who can work with our farmer customers to efficiently position and close on our Risk Management solutions for the mutual benefit of our customers and company.

30%: Job shadowing to gain on-the-job experience

Spend time job shadowing other grain originators, both in person and using remote technology, to learn how to perform the role to the expectations of our grain business. Take initiative in your personal development while collaborating with your peers and manager to learn and demonstrate your skills with our customers.

30%: Responsibility working with your own customer list

Take over a list of customers and lead the responsibility of handling that professional relationship from start to finish. This includes pre-call planning, running your own in person meetings and phone calls, buying grain into our locations, positioning our Risk Management solutions, and exploring carbon market opportunities with your assigned customers.

Job Locations:

  • Location: Olathe KS

  • Office and Field Setting

  • Travel approximately 50% or less

  • Frequent travel by personal vehicle within assigned region for meetings. You must have a safe driving history; a motor vehicle record history will be reviewed

Required Qualifications:

  • Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer

  • Currently pursuing or graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program (all majors considered) between December 2023 and May 2024

  • Valid driver’s license in the United States

  • Access to a personal vehicle for use traveling within assigned sales region

  • Willing and able to travel approximately 50% as needed

  • Willing and able to relocate

  • Ability to work optimally with individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds and cultures

  • Ability to contribute, both as part of a team and individually

  • Strong communication skills – written and oral

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or have recently graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited program with a major in Agricultural Business, Agricultural Economics, Agriculture Management or similar agricultural subject area

  • Previous internship or co-op experience with Cargill or another company

  • Overall 3.0 GPA or higher based off a 4.0 scale

  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions independently

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, with ability to influence decision-making

  • Leadership skills and experience
