Job Description:

The Environmental Practice is growing within Terracon and as a result, we are adding a new Assistant Service Line Director to support our Western Operating Group. This is both a critical and strategic position that will work closely with our operating offices to help continue the growth of the environmental practice. The position can be filled in any of our Western Operating Group offices.

General Responsibilities:

Support Terracon’s strategic plan and provide guidance to promote the safety, profitability, and growth of the Environmental Service Line. Assist with standardizing companywide processes for the service line or business sector. Develop, identify and assess opportunities for revenue growth throughout the region. Assist with the leadership development programs to help develop and grow our practitioners. Monitor the effectiveness of approaches and recommend improvements.

Essential Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support the vision and provide guidance and leadership to promote safety, profitability, and growth of the service line consistent with the overall strategic plan and the annual operations plan of the company.

  • Through collaboration and influence, assist the service line and operations in implementing actions to achieve the Strategic Plan and Annual Operations Plan.

  • Interact with the service line director, operating group manager, and division managers to develop division-specific strategic and operations initiatives and collaborate with office managers and department managers to ensure proper execution.

  • Provide guidance to operations in evaluating and managing the financial performance of their related service line departments and business sector-related projects.

  • Provide senior-level consulting to both internal staff and external clients.

  • Provide technical direction and oversight of project scopes and performance for a variety of practice areas within the service line.

  • Promote sharing of “best practices” between offices, divisions, and operating groups.

  • Assist in developing and implementing internal training programs to continually improve the depth of our technical capabilities across the service line or business sectors.

  • Assist in maintaining the quality of technical work at our high standards across all offices performing work in the service line.

  • Provide assistance to local management teams for recruiting and interviewing potential key hires for positions within the service line across the service line operations.

  • Develop and deliver client presentations as part of relationship development and business development activities and/or qualifications and proposal presentation/interview teams.

  • Be active/visible in national trade associations related to the service line, business sectors and our clients/potential clients.

  • Work with National Account Managers and strategic sector leaders to assist in developing business opportunities for the service line with our national accounts and strategic sector clients.

  • Direct the efforts of the largest project client pursuits including strategy and facilitation.

  • Assist in the development of national pricing for clients that meet our financial objectives.

  • May act as a resource by providing senior-level program management for highly visible, large-impact projects.

  • May oversee and manage portfolio projects, which have higher risk factors.

  • Develop and monitor safety practices for sector activities in Divisions or Operating Groups. Hold Offices, Managers, and Employees accountable for following safety rules and guidelines. Assist in the development of safety action plans and establish goals for a safe working environment. Set the example for others to follow.

  • Oversee the Company's commitment to quality control standards. Establish quality objectives and policy. Monitor continuous improvement programs. Hold Managers accountable for quality standards and improve levels of quality on projects.

Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the region and other parts of the United States, as necessary.

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline practices by the Firm including Engineering, Environmental Science, or Geology, and 18 years of related experience. Master’s degree or Ph.D. preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

  • Demonstrated experience in growing environmental department(s) and managing profitable operations.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise in one or more environmental practices with a working knowledge of each practice area within the Environmental service line.

  • Demonstrated experience in influencing peers and superiors to achieve positive change in the absence of a direct reporting obligation.

  • Demonstrated experience in diversifying and balancing environmental practice development and revenue through sustained organic growth of operations.

  • Professional License in area of specialty or discipline.

  • Demonstrated experience in leadership development and leading teams.
