We're seeking an experienced Product Development Specialist to research, source and purchase an assigned commodity to grow our business. Located at our Americas headquarters in the Kansas City area, this professional will make decisions focused on achieving growth with key strategic suppliers to ensure best pricing, quality and service. Essential functions include: Profile

+ Determine customer/market requirements through research, customer discussion, and review of parts usage reports and apply information to product sourcing and supplier identification for customer product inquiries and purchase requisitions.

+ Research market intelligence and competitor offerings on assigned commodity groups, remain current on all products available or forthcoming to the market and proactively source existing and new parts and identify appropriate suppliers.

+ Gather detailed cost elements and work with current pricing information to negotiate with suppliers on quality requirements, prices, payment terms, lead times/delivery, freight payment terms and any other fiscal benefits.

+ Identify discontinued parts, source for replacements and ensure customer notifications of parts changes.

+ Source and recommend new product additions for expansion of current product lines.

+ Ensure efficiency and accuracy entering current product information into the ERP including product cost, order due date (if applicable), primary and alternate supplier, description, and minimum / maximum stock quantities information.

+ On a monthly basis, provide a month end report, detailing open projects/tasks and their status.

+ Analyze and compare the company's product offering to competitor offerings and recommend new product additions for expansion of current product lines.

+ Research market intelligence on assigned commodity groups and remain current on all products available or forthcoming to the market.

+ Identify areas where cost savings can be achieved without the sacrifice of quality

+ Ensure an advantage to the company by offering superior quality and pricing over competitors

+ Leverage established purchasing processes, concepts and systems in performance of essential functions

+ Complete and may lead well defined moderately complex tasks and/or projects

+ Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems such as invoice discrepancies, product quality issues, and/or receiving or stock issues using sound problem solving techniques

+ Provide training and presentations on product offerings

+ Offer suggestions to improve processes and/or systems

+ Maintain working relationships with various departments including Accounts Payable, Quality Assurance, Sales, and Operations

+ Work collaboratively with suppliers, customers and team members to achieve balanced scorecard

+ Willingness and ability to travel up to 10%

+ Demonstrates effective supplier negotiation skills with success in achieving pricing, quality and service targets

+ Demonstrates proficient understanding of supply chain and sourcing concepts and systems

+ Demonstrates a basic understanding of assigned commodity groups and associated markets

+ Demonstrates intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Excel and Word
