Olathe Medical Center Radiation Therapist in Olathe, Kansas

Job Summary:

We welcome you to join the Oncology Services Team as a Radiation Therapist. In this role, you will be responsible for performing the accurate delivery of prescribed ionizing therapeutic radiation under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist, using a variety of complex techniques and equipment. Shares and coordinates key information through documentation and oral communication, with other members of the healthcare team. Ensures the ability to obtain and interpret information while considering each patient's specific needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Vocational / Technical Graduate of Accredited school of Radiation Therapy Minimum

  • 1 - 3 Years Current knowledge of appropriate clinical practice, radiation protection and quality assurance, patient management and care, charges, basic dosimetry and equipment. Minimum

  • Mosaiq (Minimum proficiency)

  • Regulatory Knowledge: Regulations governing the use of radiation in medicine and quality control procedures (Minimum proficiency)

  • Other: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Minimum Upon Hire

  • Other: License with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts. Minimum Upon Hire

  • Healthcare Provider CPR – (American Heart Association or American Red Cross ONLY) Minimum 30 Days

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Explains the routine treatment procedures to the patient including the method of communication between the patient and the therapist during treatment.

  • Reinforces instructions of the Radiation Oncologist regarding the treatment side effects and the care of the area being irradiated.

  • Prepares treatment room and equipment according to prescribed immobilization devices, field size, and treatment distance.

  • Transfers the patient safely to the couch giving special attention and care when catheters, IV's, oxygen, or other life support systems are in use.

  • Utilizes good judgment in carrying out the duties by understanding and responding appropriately to customer needs. When appropriate, voices concern to the Medical Director, Radiation Oncologists and Service Line Director when any fear regarding patient safety.

  • Accurately delivers the prescribed course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision.
