Garmin Senior Software Engineer - Aviation in Olathe, Kansas

We are seeking a full-time Senior Software Engineer to join our Aviation product engineering team at our headquarters in the greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and project planning for software development for products, applications, or systems new to Garmin.\n\nEssential Functions \n\n\n\tServes in a leadership capacity for carrying out software development in C, C++, C#, Java, Assembly language or other selected languages for new products and/or applications\n\tMay serve as a Lead Software Engineer for complex software development project designs and/or reviews architected modules and software systems supporting new technology or improving capability/performance of existing functionality \n\tDecomposes functional requirements into well-defined tasks \n\tResearches fundamental problems and implements algorithm solutions that are appropriate\n\tOffers peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs \n\tAssists design engineering as needed with component datasheet review and schematic design review\n\tParticipates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents\n\tMakes substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility and applies good judgment in setting schedules/risk taking\n\tContributes to advanced technical research on new technologies \n\tOffers process improvement suggestions and authors new procedures as appropriate\n\tProvides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques\n\tSupports working hours as part of a rotating schedule to provide on call support of Garmin’s 24/7 operations\n Basic Qualifications \n\n\n\tBachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience\n\tExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)\n\tDemonstrated proficiency with designing well architectured software systems and modules that support new technology or improve capability/performance of existing functionality \n\tDemonstrated competence with researching fundamental problems and implementing appropriate algorithmic solutions \n\tDemonstrated ability to serve as a lead software engineer for a complex software project \n\tAbility to decompose functional requirements into well-defined tasks while balancing quality, quantity, and complexity in work output \n\tDemonstrated capability to offer peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs \n\tMust possess mastered proficiency in writing software in C, C++, C# or Java as appropriate for performing the essential functions of this job description \n\tMust possess relevant experience and/or training in data structures or object-oriented design methodology relevant to Garmin’s business needs\n\tDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills\n\n\nDesired Qualifications \n\n\n\tPrivate Pilot's license\n\tAviation industry experience \n\n\n \n\nGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
