Garmin Software Engineer 1 - Connect IQ Platform in Olathe, Kansas

We are looking for a full-time Software Engineer 1 for our headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for developing features for the Connect IQ app platform. Connect IQ allows developers to create aps that run on Garmin’s wearables, bike computers, and outdoor handheld devices, and are downloaded by millions of users around the world. Essential functions include:

  • Develops software in C, C++, C#, Java, Objective C, and other selected languages for the Connect IQ SDK and/or applications consistently following Garmin’s coding standards and in accordance with applicable software development methodology and release processes

  • Utilizes software engineering tools such as Microsoft Visual Studio, Git, LLVM, GCC, and debuggers in the software development process

  • Creates development tools for the Monkey C language

  • Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques

  • Performs technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems

  • Estimate level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes, and provide comments on some electrical design aspects

  • Apply Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed

  • Works collaboratively and professionally with other Garmin associates in cross functional teams to achieve goals

  • Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion

  • Other responsibilities may include reviewing product and/or application information including manuals, app descriptions, assets, marketing materials, and brochures for technical accuracy, participating in product and/or application definition activities including feature analysis and system trade-offs and performing other duties as necessary.

Qualified candidates for this role will possess a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering Aerospace Engineering, Math or Physics or a technical field (such as CIS or IT) relevant to the essential functions of this job description from a four-year college or university OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Other requirements include:

  • Must demonstrate knowledge, education, experience and/or training necessary to develop basic software in C, C++, C#, Java, assembly language, or other selected languages

  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Previous work or internship experience in design, particularly for consumer products is highly preferred!
