Garmin Software Engineer (Android / SDK) in Olathe, Kansas

We are looking for a full-time Software Engineer-Android to join our Garmin Health team to work at our headquarters in Olathe, KS. In this role, you will be responsible for developing the Garmin Health Android SDKs used by Garmin’s corporate partners to interact directly with Garmin’s wearable devices.

Other essential functions include:

  • Utilizing software development tools and instruments to develop, test, debug, and deploy quality software

  • Utilizing tools such as Git and Gerrit Bitbucket in the software development process

  • Creating and executing designs for software components within a larger project

  • Collaborating and adding value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions

  • Providing reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques

  • Performing technical root cause analysis and outline corrective action for given problems

  • Estimating level of effort, evaluate new options of similar technology, offer suggestions to improve processes

  • Providing technical support for Garmin Health corporate partners who are implementing Android apps using the SDK

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math or Physics or a technical field (such as CIS or IT) from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of one year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Other qualifications include:

  • Must possess a minimum 1 year of work experience

  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)

  • Excellent working knowledge of Java, Android Studio, Android best practices, and SQL data stores.

  • Comfortable interacting with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Experience integrating and maintaining 3rd party software packages.

  • Proficient interacting with RESTful APIs using JSON.

  • Strong knowledge of Android components such as Services, Providers, Activities, Fragments, Receivers, and IPC, as well as component lifecycles.

  • Experience developing toolkits for other developers to use

  • Experience working with the non-UI aspects of Android development.

  • Experience working with Bluetooth, NFC or another asynchronous communications technology.

2+ years of experience in a role similar to this is highly desired
