Osawatomie State Hospital is licensed by the State of Kansas to provide care and treatment for adults diagnosed with psychiatric disorders regardless of ability to pay. There are currently two hospitals on the Osawatomie campus in Miami county: Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) and Adair Acute Care (AAC). Adair Acute Care are a 60-bed facility, certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

Position is located at Osawatomie State Hospital, days/hours may vary. This position may require you to work weekends. A negative drug screen is required as a condition of employment.

The purpose of the Chief Medical Director position is to Administratively, physician will provide supervision and oversight of ancillary services such as the Laboratory, Physical Therapy, Dentist; supervision, chart reviews and evaluations of the medical physicians and medical APRNs. The physician will prepare and submit a monthly schedule for the medical providers and have these sent out hospital wide. Physician will arrange for coverage when medical providers are on leave. Physician will participate in committees such as Infection Control, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, and Environment of Care.

Clinically, Physician will provide medical services to patients. Physician will: perform physical and neurological examinations and abnormal movement monitoring within 24 hours of the patients admission, perform physical and neurological examinations annually or upon request e.g., for placement purposes, make daily unit rounds, respond to requests for medical assessment and consultations, follow up patients as needed. Physician will enter required assessments, medical diagnoses, and progress notes in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Physician will enter medication orders in the Pharmacy Computer System. Physician will participate in hospital-wide performance improvement activities and other medical staff functions as assigned.

The essential functions of this position may require physical strength to frequently push, pull, twist, bend, squat, walk, stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or restrain residents with or without assistance and respond to aggressive resident behavior with specific, trained techniques. Be able to observe and respond to residents in distress.

Minimum Qualifications: Completion of medical school training. Completion of residenc in medicine in an approved training program, or at least two years of an approved residency or fellowship training program. Current active medical license in Kansas. Knowledge and experience in the use medical medications. Ability to work with other physicians and other hospital staff. Ability to utilize the EHR, Pharmacy system, dictation system. Capacity to walk around the hospital campus for unit rounds.

Positions in this class require that at the time of appointment the selected candidate must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services. Persons hired must also pass a law enforcement security clearance in compliance with policies of the Department of Aging and Disability Services.
