HGL provides environmental engineering, remediation, and construction services, as well as Military Munitions Response Program support to the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Energy, and other federal and state government clients. Currently, HGL has a position open for an Assistant Scientist in our Overland Park, KS office.
Responsibilities/Duties
The successful candidate will be:
Responsible for execution of environmental field tasks and related office work
This includes work plan and report preparation under the direction of a project manager
Tasks may include but are not limited to development of maps and drawings, data collection/environmental sampling, and data entry and analysis
Required Experience
This is an entry level position and generally requires 0-2 years of related work experience. Those applying directly out of college must be able to demonstrate a knowledge of procedures necessary to successfully perform the responsibilities of the position.
While this is an entry level position, the successful candidate will have some experience with one or more of the following:
Performance of field activities
Experience with environmental site operations
Monitoring well drilling, logging, and installation
Environmental sampling
Knowledge of and experience with RCRA, CERCLA, DoD, DoE, or USEPA projects
Must demonstrate a history of responsibility, initiative, motivation and creativity
Must possess strong written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail
Must also be willing to participate in all project tasks including but not limited to field work, data analysis, and report preparation
Proficiency in MS Project and MS Power Point are a plus
Required Education
The Assistant Scientist position requires a minimum of a BS or BA degree in a fields related to Environmental Studies such as Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Soil Science, Biology or Chemistry. The particular degree needed may vary with each position. A MS degree is considered a plus but is not required.
Required Qualifications
To perform the duties of this position a person will need to be in good physical health and be able to lift up to 30 pounds in order to perform field tasks
Field tasks may take place in environments which include rugged terrain and weather extremes
The successful candidate will be required to possess or obtain OSHA HAZWOPER certification upon employment
Travel, overtime and moderate physical work are routinely required.
Preferred Qualifications
It is preferred that the candidate selected will be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
