YRC Freight Claim Prevention and Resolution Coordinator in Overland Park, Kansas

Claim Prevention and Resolution Coordinator - ( 2100RY )

Primary Location : US-KS-Overland Park

Shift : Day


Responsible for activities and initiatives that will contribute toward the prevention, reduction or resolutions of cargo claims. Provides training, audits and evaluates compliance to, system wide Over, Short and Damaged (OS&D) practices and established procedures. Conduct problem-solving activities related to loss and damage claims and investigations of distressed shipments.


  1. Determine and processes and procedures and identifying training needs and opportunities for operational improvements.

  2. Perform high level analyses and trends to determine root cause analysis on claims issues. Independently make recommendations based on results and effectively communicate recommendations.

  3. Partner with internal and external customers to identify opportunities, problem resolution and process improvement.

  4. Formulate claim prevention plans based on claim resolution findings and analyzing customer data.

  5. Collect and compile statistical quality data to identify areas for improvement.

  6. Develop, recommend, and monitor corrective and preventative actions.

  7. Identify training needs and organize training interventions to meet claim prevention standards.

  8. Evaluate internal audit findings and implement corrective actions in the claim prevention area.

  9. Assure ongoing compliance with quality and industry regulatory requirments in both the claim resolution and claim preventions areas.

  10. Interpret and implement claim prevention standards including all OS&D policies and procedures.

  11. Evaluate the adequacy of OS&D policies and procedures as they relate to YRC Freight’s customers as well as union and non-union field employees.

  12. Support claims reductions efforts by identifying repetitious claims and shipment exceptions from particular sources or similar causes.

  13. Identify Security issues concerning theft probability.

  14. Investigate and evaluate claim resolutions of high level of complexity to achieve appropriate outcomes and cost effective solutions.

  15. Coordinate in recovery of distressed shipments by matching shipment data with unidentified freight. Coordinate disposition of damaged and unclaimed shipments.

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in related area.

  2. Three (3) years related work experience.

  3. Thorough understanding of common carrier freight flow and terminal and distribution center operations.

  4. Ability to Direct Field operations on procedures that need to be accomplished in the areas of Claim Prevention as well as resolution of customer issues.

  5. Demonstrated problem solving capabilities.

  6. Ability to perform effectively under pressure, prioritize and delegate work.

  7. Ability to gather information from a variety of sources, make timely decisions by evaluating the information and data and then communicate those decisions to appropriate individuals.

  8. Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  9. 10% travel.


  1. Experience working or managing OS&D at the terminal level.

  2. Group training experience.

  3. Working knowledge of freight loss and damage laws and regulations


This job operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.


The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs of supplies and materials is required.
