BHC RHODES Construction Inspector II in Overland Park, Kansas


This position provides daily inspection and oversight of the contractor’s work in accordance with design drawings, specifications and criteria and national, state and local codes, regulations and authorities, and customer specifications. Additional responsibilities include participating in RFI’s, submittals, and change orders. Review of applications for payment and schedules. KS DOT inspection certification required.

  • Performs construction field inspection on highways/roadways/freeways/drainage/utility improvements.

  • Performs independent office reviews of project drawings and documents.

  • Administers construction contracts for our customers. Must independently make evaluations and work directly with the client to resolve any issues that occur.

  • Performs quantity calculations and grade checking to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications on typical items of work including asphalt and concrete pavement construction, culvert and drainage structure construction, earthwork operations, traffic control, and inspecting projects for compliance with storm water measures. Must be able to communicate directly with the contractor on issues that affect conformance with the plans and specifications. Has independent authority to approve or reject products received on site which are scheduled to be utilized on the project.

  • Verifies that construction work has been completed in compliance with contract requirements. Makes independent judgments of the acceptability of construction in order to approve pay requests from the contractor as a service to the client.

  • Maintains daily record files and documents work pictorially; conducts meetings with contractors and government representatives, and prepares minutes and lists of required actions. Prepares weekly summary reports directly to the client on project progress and activity identifying any concerns immediately. Enters project diary entries, daily pay quantitites, material test report information, and other electronic documentation in client's perferred system.


  • High School diploma required.

  • KS DOT Inspection Certification required.

  • NICET certification preferred.

  • Additional studies in engineering, survey, and/or construction management helpful.

  • Must have a minimum of seven years experience working in the construction materials testing and inspection, drilling, engineering, or heavy construction industries.

  • Must have knowledge of federal, state and local codes and ordinances, building codes, construction materials (such as); soil, concrete, rebar layout, masonry, , steel, , etc. relevant to projects involving roadway/ paving, earthwork, pipe-lines, renovations, bridge, tunnels, , drainage, and materials verification/testing.

  • Must be able to setup, track, file and organize client emails and communications for project backup

  • Must be computer literate and general knowledge of: PC, fax machine, scanner, printer, cell phone, digital camera, input cards and laptops.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels.

  • Well organized and demonstrated interpersonal relations skills.

  • Ability to write daily summaries and pay quantities in English clearly in paper field books.
