Accenture Data Privacy Counsel in Overland Park, Kansas

The Legal Counsel - Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy is a permanent and full-time manager role to be filled by an experienced data privacy professional. The successful candidate will have a strong legal background and be able to demonstrate strong interest and experience in digital and technology. The role sits within Accenture’s Ethics & Compliance function in Legal, reports to the Global Data Privacy - Advisory Function Lead (who oversees Data Privacy Advisory for Accenture globally). Accenture prefers to fill the role in USA (East/Central). CIPP professional certification(s) or equivalents are preferred.

Key Responsibilities

As part of the Data Privacy Advisory functional group within Accenture’s global Data Privacy team, the role has the following data privacy responsibility:

  • Conduct Privacy by Design reviews for client facing services, offerings, projects, products or initiatives, incorporating data privacy principles into those initiatives. Provide data privacy advice to the services, offerings, projects, products or initiatives, in support of rapid-solutioning to meet identified client needs.

  • Partner and interact with key business stakeholders and senior individuals, to ensure data privacy issues are considered at the outset of new services, offerings, projects, products and initiatives. Support complex client facing deals. Support HIPAA related questions, and ensure HIPAA compliance Conduct legal research, interpret and apply a risk-based assessment of how legal requirements affect new services, offerings, projects, products or initiatives.

  • Build and maintain strong and trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in particular with legal and business teams, and interaction with clients, as needed Effectively work with the regional and local stakeholders to create and maintain suitable privacy review processes and embed privacy by design methodology into relevant business processes.

  • Effectively work with the other DP team roles on global DP initiatives and projects.

  • Stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments related to data privacy and adjacent fields/areas/topics, including technology trends and developments and their impact, develop guidance, training and thought leadership for internal audiences.

Relationships:

  • Reports to: Advisory Function Lead - Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy

  • Legal, including Global Services Legal, Sales & Delivery, Employment, Disputes & Litigation, IP, as well as external counsel.

  • Corporate Functions including the HIPAA Privacy Officer

  • Market Unit leadership

  • Data Privacy and Information Security leads globally.

  • Related subject matter experts (e.g. solutions architects, client account leads).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate

  • Authorized and licensed to practice in at least one US jurisdiction.

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in global data privacy law, practicing in a global company, preferably in technology and IT sector.

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience with major national data privacy legislation, including HIPAA, and with cross border privacy issues.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in monitoring privacy trends and developments and translating those into actionable requirements.

Preferred Requirements

  • Demonstrate data privacy and data security expertise & command of global data privacy and related laws, including HIPAA.

  • Proficiency in English (both spoken and written).

  • CIPP/CIPM or comparable privacy certification.

  • Knowledge of Information and Communication Technologies.

  • Demonstrate strong project/program management and operational skills to lead cross-functional projects, especially in a multi-cultural environment.

  • Ability to lead and work effectively remotely with a global team.

  • Ability to explain difficult-to-understand ideas, processes, or plans in simple terms, enhance simplification.

  • Able to think out of the box, work independently and collaboratively across various levels and to bridge different views and requirements.

  • Highly motivated and proactive, with the ability to articulate company vision and policy, and to seek out areas of risk and priority.

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface, and develop relationships, with all levels of management and staff, and work cross-culturally.

  • Confidence and credibility in dealing with internal management, senior personnel within the corporate functions, outside counsel, other Legal team members.

  • Able to consistently apply good judgment.

  • Able to adapt nimbly to changing needs within the business.

Compensation at Accenture varies depending on a wide array of factors, which may include but are not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience.
