Plans and executes sales development programs that directly support sales, profit, and/or market share growth efforts across multiple business units, segments, or channels. Develops business case for new sales expansion or coverage improvement opportunities in the largest target market(s), and negotiates with and influences leadership on pursuit. Forecasts business development opportunities and develops sales expansion strategies. Develops and Implements cross-functional and/or cross-business unit strategic sales initiatives. Develops and maintains key business relationships with groups or individuals within the largest or most crucial target market or channel.

Job Description

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to AVP/VP; no direct reports

CORE JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cultivates, fosters and manages executive level relationships with key focus firms at the national, regional and profit center level.

  • Understands and evaluates focus firms’ corporate strategies and business needs to identify opportunities to connect multiple business units within Nationwide and deepen the enterprise relationship and relevance within the firm.

  • Develops, coordinates and implements strategic plans with external focus firms and aligns appropriate Nationwide business units to execute such initiatives.

  • Aligns territory, state, and regional initiatives/strategies to ensure national consistency for focus firms.

  • Establishes priorities, sets objectives and fosters team work and a diverse work environment to achieve NNP goals.

  • Creates business development/sales presentations, as well as market conduct/ROI reports for delivery to leadership of key external and internal stakeholders.

  • Influences brokers and program managers to secure new business opportunities and enterprise relationships.

  • Negotiates national contracts and profit share agreements.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Undergraduate studies in general business, insurance, marketing or related fields.

License/Certification/Designation: CPCU, CLU or equivalent insurance designations preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 8 years experience in insurance sales or in the insurance industry. Experience specifically in property and casualty operations is highly desirable.

Knowledge: Proven knowledge of sales program implementation, distribution systems, project management and training concepts involving products, rules and rating plans. Working knowledge of state laws and regulations required.

Skills/Competencies: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to disseminate vision of senior leadership and to motivate a large agency force. Must be action-oriented and have strong drive for results. Must have working skills in common office software and personal computers. Ability to set work priorities and to initiate, evaluate and recommend solutions to upper management. Must have high level of command skills and managerial courage.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt)

Working Conditions: Normal office environment. 45-80% travel with extensive overnight travel. Alternative work environment might include working from home.
