Actalent Geotechnical Engineer in Overland Park, Kansas
Description:
Supporting the conceptual design, permitting, final design, and construction of geoenvironmental remediation systems (cutoff walls, barriers, closures and caps, groundwater management systems, etc) for industrial waste impoundments and contaminated sites.
Supporting the assessment of dam safety and management practices
Performing construction quantity takeoffs and cost estimating
Working with experienced company engineering and CAD staff to develop engineering drawings, technical specifications, and CQA plans
Performing geotechnical calculations including seepage, slope stability, seismic and liquefaction assessments, settlement analyses, etc.
Writing reports, technical memoranda, and other documents for review by experienced staff
Acting as the Technical Task Manager by independently leading tasks within a larger project team, under the direction of the company project manager.
Leading field investigation programs (i.e., borings, sampling, laboratory testing)
Implementing company safety and quality management systems
Providing construction oversight and/or management services
10-20% travel is expected

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering and 3+ years of relevant experience focused in geotechnical, geoenvironmental, and civil engineering
MS Degree and engineering design and cost estimating experience a plus.
Registered PE (MO and IL, or licensure in another U.S. state with the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months)
Minimum Skills and Abilities:
Geotechnical calculations, including seepage and slope stability
Independent report writing for review by experienced staff
Ability to support the development of civil and geoenvironmental design projects
Ability to lead field subsurface investigation programs
Ability to work semi-independently with limited, but regular, oversight from experienced staff
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- CAD(D) design experience, CCR experience, mining experience, and dam safety experience a plus, but not required
