Actalent Geotechnical Engineer in Overland Park, Kansas

Description:

  • Supporting the conceptual design, permitting, final design, and construction of geoenvironmental remediation systems (cutoff walls, barriers, closures and caps, groundwater management systems, etc) for industrial waste impoundments and contaminated sites.

  • Supporting the assessment of dam safety and management practices

  • Performing construction quantity takeoffs and cost estimating

  • Working with experienced company engineering and CAD staff to develop engineering drawings, technical specifications, and CQA plans

  • Performing geotechnical calculations including seepage, slope stability, seismic and liquefaction assessments, settlement analyses, etc.

  • Writing reports, technical memoranda, and other documents for review by experienced staff

  • Acting as the Technical Task Manager by independently leading tasks within a larger project team, under the direction of the company project manager.

  • Leading field investigation programs (i.e., borings, sampling, laboratory testing)

  • Implementing company safety and quality management systems

  • Providing construction oversight and/or management services

  • 10-20% travel is expected

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering and 3+ years of relevant experience focused in geotechnical, geoenvironmental, and civil engineering

  • MS Degree and engineering design and cost estimating experience a plus.

  • Registered PE (MO and IL, or licensure in another U.S. state with the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months)

Minimum Skills and Abilities:

  • Geotechnical calculations, including seepage and slope stability

  • Independent report writing for review by experienced staff

  • Ability to support the development of civil and geoenvironmental design projects

  • Ability to lead field subsurface investigation programs

  • Ability to work semi-independently with limited, but regular, oversight from experienced staff

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • CAD(D) design experience, CCR experience, mining experience, and dam safety experience a plus, but not required
