YRC Freight Onboarding Specialist in Overland Park, Kansas

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for facilitating the onboarding and orientation process for all union operations employees including Drivers, Mechanics and Dock employees. This individual will also be a resource for our new employees after the completion of training and through the first 90 days of employment, as they grow accustomed to the day-to-day activities of the job and the organization. This individual will also be responsible for helping the employee to build relationships with local leaders, supervisors, and dispatchers to facilitate retention and engagement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conduct new employee onboarding and orientation activities for a geographic area including ensuring completion of new hire paperwork and onboarding documents for all new Drivers, Dockworkers, and Mechanics in the assigned area of responsibility. Activities may take place in person or remote depending on location and geographic area supported.

  2. Facilitate hands on training with local management resources to ensure new employees receive the necessary training to conduct their work in a safe, effective manner. This could include working with management to facilitate forklift training or working with the driver training team to facilitate road tests and/or finishing school for less experienced drivers.

  3. Administer drug and background screening for selected candidates according to company requirements. Interpret results of MVR’s, background reports and drug screens within DOT and company policy.

  4. Ensure completion and return of all new paperwork to ensure a complete new hire file (including the electronic I-9).

  5. Conduct orientation including delivery of required training. Ensure any needed accounts are set up for new employee (i.e., electronic logging device) in a timely manner.

  6. Answer questions and be a resource for new employees on any issue they may have regarding their employment and getting to know the company culture, processes, and people.

  7. Process documents for all new hires and organize aspects of the welcome procedures for orientation.

  8. Advise candidates on terminal operations and the functionality of union expectations.

  9. Compose and maintain accurate electronic files and information for tracking and compliance Manages confidential documents pertaining to candidate details and union procedures

  10. Create new hire files to comply with company record retention guidelines.

  11. Remain current and effectively adhere to OFCCP and HR policies for federal, state and local levels.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Experience with Microsoft Office products.

  2. Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

  3. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Knowledge of state and federal employment laws.

  2. Knowledgeable of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR).

WORKING CONDITIONS

This job operates in a professional office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using office equipment and computers. Ability to perform repetitive tasks, such as typing and keying. Occasional lifting, pushing/pulling, carrying 10 lbs. of supplies and materials is required.
