Senior Java Developer - ( 2103J6 )

Primary Location : US-KS-Overland Park

Shift : Day


The Java Developer leverages a strong technical aptitude to design and develop Java solutions. This position contributes to organizational success by providing transportation expertise, analytical and influencing skills to support the transportation team in developing innovative, cost effective and scalable systems facilitating growth and customer value. The Java Developer participates as a member of a fast-paced agile team and collaborates cross- functionally to design and implement solutions providing competitive advantage to business operations. The Java Developer fosters continuous improvement by contributing to coding, testing and implementation best practices.


  1. Develop and extend Java solutions to achieve desired business outcomes.

  2. Facilitate gathering and interpretation of business requirements, create functional specifications and determine the most efficient/appropriate technologies to achieve desired outcomes.

  3. Perform analysis of business models, logical specifications and/or customer requirements.

  4. Develop comprehensive knowledge of business strategy, operating models and processes in order to identify improvement opportunities and value-added capabilities.

  5. Act as expert in internally developed solutions to support business execution and achieve optimal outcomes.

  6. Work with development teams to integrate Java solutions with company business systems and third-party platforms.

  7. Analyze, manipulate and present data to support decision-making.

  8. Resolve and prevent reoccurrence of issues impacting system operation, import/export of data and connectivity to supporting systems.

  9. Stay abreast transportation and development trends, and determine value to the Company.

  10. Support business users to improve productivity, knowledge and competence.

  11. Work with development teams to implement and support governance and change management processes.

  12. Prepare and execute regression and QA tests for configuration changes, fixes and enhancements.

  13. Provide best practice consulting to management, business partners and team members.

  14. Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

  15. Ensure quality and maintain performance of deployed solutions.

  16. Contribute, support and enhance Agile Scrum software development practices.

  17. Assist with other projects as needed to contribute to efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.

  1. Requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.

  2. Minimum 5 years experience developing Java based solutions using Spring Framework.

  3. MS SQL database knowledge.

  4. Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, scalable software design, and REST service based architectures.

  5. Agile Development Methodology preferred.

  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  7. Strong technical aptitude, fast learner and effective problem solver.

  8. Self-motivated, goal oriented and capable of working both independently and in a team environment.

  9. Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.

  10. Great team player with positive attitude.

  11. Experience integrating codebase with CI/CD processes using Git, Jenkins, JIRA.

  12. Transportation industry knowledge a plus.

  13. Advanced experience on AngularJS 1.x, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, NodeJS a plus.


This job operates remotely but if preferred can be in an office environment indoors. Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones.


The position requires the ability to spend long hours sitting or standing while using a computer. Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as typing and keying.
