Sr. Accountant – Compliance, Procurement, & Reporting

Accounting Operations is responsible for ensuring that the financial results of T-Mobile are accurately presented under both US GAAP and IFRS accounting standards. There are a variety of teams within Accounting Operations which provides opportunities for professional growth and development. The teams are responsible for areas such as corporate accounting, accounting policies, fixed asset & lease accounting, supply chain accounting, equipment sales accounting, revenue accounting, and financial services accounting.

The compliance, procurement, & reporting group under the fixed asset & lease accounting team is seeking a Senior Accountant who will report to the Accounting Manager. This position will work with finance/business teams throughout the company to ensure that accruals and commitments for operating expenses and capitalized costs are recorded accurately. In addition, this individual will assist in process improvement projects within the group and across the team. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of business process and accounting concepts. We are looking for a candidate who can manage multiple tasks at once while constantly striving to improve processes and find efficiencies.

What you’ll do in your role.

  • Assist in the monthly close process, including preparation and review/posting of journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, and performing trend analysis/flux commentary.

  • Understand business drivers and their effect on financial results to ensure business changes are accurately reflected in the financial statements and communicated to business partners.

  • Assess open purchase orders to determine any commitment amounts required to be disclosed

  • Review and document current and future state business processes and associated controls

  • Ensure compliance in meeting SOX requirements.

  • Proactively identify process improvement opportunities and work with appropriate team members and partners to resolve and implement solutions

  • Provide support for the audits performed by internal and external auditors.

  • Assist in creating ad hoc and monthly reports from multiple sources as needed.

  • Proactively identify risks and opportunities for improvements within Fixed Assets processes and recommend solutions.

  • Use accounting concepts, wide-ranging experience, analytical skills, and knowledge of industry to identify and resolve issues in creative and effective ways.

  • Participate and lead in cross functional projects by mentoring and leading accountants for purposes of team building and project completion.

The experience you’ll bring.

  • Strong understanding of accounting theory and accounting systems; SAP and BPC experience a plus

  • Excellent interpersonal, decision-making and analytical abilities

  • Experience with understanding end to end business and accounting processes

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with different levels within the organization

  • Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to balance a large group of diverse projects simultaneously with excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to resolve complex problems positively and professionally with minimal supervision

  • Ability to analyze large volumes of data from multiple systems

  • Proficient in Excel

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within a large company accounting environment requires, with 1+ years public accounting preferred.

  • CPA highly preferred

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • T-Mobile requires all employees in this position to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to starting work.
