Obtain, review and reconcile client data to prepare sales and use tax returns. Communicate and resolve any data related issues with client. Efficiently and timely import data, within the deadline, in the sales tax compliance software system to prepare/process the sales tax returns.
Manage timely delivery of all sales tax compliance functions. Review sales tax returns prepared by other members of the sales tax compliance team for accuracy and completeness. Prepare sales and use tax returns as required and necessary. Ensure timely processing of payments.
Actively document and review sales and use tax compliance processes. Provide process improvement recommendations and execute all necessary process improvements as approved by the leadership team.
Compile and provide monthly compliance related engagement economics reports to the SALT leadership team.
Directly work with clients to solve their various sales and use tax compliance related matters.
Assist clients in setting up their sales and use tax decision matrix in various sales tax calculation engines.
Assist clients with multi-state sales and use tax registration projects.
Work closely with external software vendors to create efficiency in our sales and use tax compliance process.
Assist with new client onboarding process.
Actively participate in practice development efforts by initiating targeted discussions with internal and external stakeholders as requested by the SALT leadership team.
Work closely with other sales tax consulting and compliance team members to ensure seamless process and coordination on compliance efforts throughout the firm, including ownership of and adherence to firm safety protocols and procedures.
Bachelor's degree required; emphasis in accounting, finance or related field preferred
CPA and/or CMI preferred. If not CPA or CMI, must meet educational requirements to obtain license upon hire in state of employment
Minimum of 4 years of tax compliance management experience required; public accounting experience preferred
Previous experience in performing tax research and technical tax return review is required
Previous experience working with Vertex - sales and use tax preparation software (OneSource, Avalara, and/or Vertex) is strongly preferred
Experience in training and supervising Staff and Seniors
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must be a highly motivated self-starter and have experience in managing multiple client engagements simultaneously in a fast paced environment with strict deadlines
Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and one or more sales tax compliance software
Ability to travel as needed, approximately 10%
