This position will be working from home in Kansas City, MO and will need to go in from time to time

Summary of Duties:

  • This position is responsible for the execution of strategic sourcing initiatives of purchased products and commodities such as electrical and mechanical assemblies, plastic components, materials, testing and more

  • Builds and maintains a supply base capable of meeting current and future business needs

  • Supports production and development projects by advancing best practices, implementing continuous improvement, and applying lean and six sigma methodologies

  • Supports new supplier onboarding activities by assessing technical capabilities, providing training and preparing for audit

  • Assists in capacity assessments of suppliers to help determine and prevent current and future bottlenecks and ensure right sizing of supply base

  • Works with design agencies and other counterparts to understand new technologies needed and help supply base adapt and evolve

  • Analyzes supplier and commodity risks and develops action plan to mitigate

  • Executes commodity and supplier strategic sourcing strategy

  • Builds and maintains strong relationships and communication plans with suppliers

  • Works closely with counterparts in purchased product engineering, quality, procurement and other functions

  • Provides input into overall Make vs. Buy decision making process

  • Engages suppliers early during development and new product introduction to gather feedback and improve designs and manufacturability

  • Monitors data and metrics to identify trends within the supply base that indicate action is required

  • Assists in resolving global or strategic issues that impact multiple part families, commodities or suppliers

  • Mentors new and experienced engineers in the strategic sourcing organization

  • Potential to travel up to 25%

    You Must Have:

  • U.S. citizenship to obtain and maintain U.S. Department of Energy “Q” level security clearance

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Industrial Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program

  • Four (4) or more years or engineering experience

    We Value:

  • Four or more years of relevant experience in engineering or related technical activities, such as manufacturing, inspection processing, supplier engineering

  • Ability to apply design, development, evaluation, and quality control techniques to routine through moderately complex engineering projects

  • Ability to analyze routine to moderately complex engineering designs and specifications to achieve efficient and reliable manufacturing or acceptance processes

  • Demonstrated ability to lead quality improvement projects

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and to influence others to accomplish complex tasks and solve complex technical problems

  • Ability and willingness to drive change and challenge / improve existing processes

  • Self-motivated, proactive and the ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities

  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments

  • Familiarity with Six Sigma tools and methodology; Six Sigma certification preferred
