Job Summary & Essential Functions:
The Configuration Management Specialist is accountable for maintaining engineering development, testing and production product lifecycle management (PLM) documentation, as well as implementing configuration management control, managing the schedule for required subcontractor deliverable required documentation, and incorporation of engineering bill of material and operations data into an ERP system.
The following description provides a general scope of the position.
Monitors procedures for the Engineering department and recommends changes to engineering documents for assigned programs. Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.
Reviews released engineering change data and coordinates changes with engineering, quality, support, manufacturing, and engineering data control activities.
Ensures change accounting activity is in compliance with configuration management policies.
Review drawings and documents for completeness and adherence to industry quality standards.
Perform formal electronic release of engineering documentation to a Master server location.
Ensures configuration identification, change control, status, verification, audits and data management.
Assigns document numbers, drawing numbers, revisions and notes.
Enters engineering release record information.
Assists in coordinating changes to processes using defined change management practices while maintaining configuration control.
Identifies data discrepancies within engineering drawings and documents.
Inputs and maintains information used to develop data management metrics for contract deliveries to provide visibility of performance.
Verifies that engineering and supplier product definition data meets procedural and system requirements.
Locates and distributes applicable standards in support of data management requirements
Verifies, reports and checks status of schedule compliance for engineering specifications by recording engineering product definition data from date of receipt to release.
Creates and maintains bills of material and operations within an ERP system required to support production.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Administers configuration management activities related to identification, control and accounting for engineering documents for systems and/or equipment in accordance with contractual requirements.
Maintains procedures to implement and processes engineering documents for all assigned projects to ensure compliance with policies and scheduling requirements.
Participates in reviewing engineering change data and coordinates changes with engineering, quality assurance and manufacturing to ensure compliance with customer requirements and Ducommun policy.
Reviews work project notifications to assure the accuracy of current contractual reporting requirements.
Maintains procedures for storage, retention and destruction of company records, processing, filming, storing and retrieving current and historical design, technical and programmatic documents according to project, customer and company practices and requirements.
May participate in change control meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Skills & Qualifications
Required Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and competencies required of this job.
Has a basic understanding of engineering and technical specifications, statements of work, drawings and similar defining documents, including bill of materials and operating procedures. Knowledge of the Planning, ERP, and change management systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have good interpersonal, conflict resolution, negotiation, and time management skills.
Comfortable working with specifications for new equipment, processes, procedures and systems, including technical data sheets used to purchase and install new tools and modification of existing systems.
Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered.
Typically requires a bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, or related discipline and three or more years of progressive configuration management experience.
Equivalent professional configuration management experience may be substituted in lieu of education. Must have a general understanding of configuration management concepts and principles, related governmental rules and regulations and experience demonstrating a general application of those concepts and principles.
Good communication, documentation, presentation and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of employees and management.
Ability to work independently or in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
Ability to be effective with minimal direction. Recognizes problems and addresses them without waiting to be instructed to do so by others.
Proficient in the use of personal computers: MS Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project and Visio.

Must have good finger dexterity – computer data entry.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
Must be able to communicate effectively and clearly.
Travel required, up to 5%.
Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands/arms, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
Must be able to occasionally move and/or lift from 1 – 50 pounds
Working conditions are:75% office environment, 25% manufacturing environment.
Noise level is moderate in office environment.
Frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat.
Hearing protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.
Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) required in all manufacturing areas.
Safety Footwear shall be in accordance with the following: ASTM standard F2413-05 with minimum impact resistance, compression resistance and metatarsal designation ratings of 75 foot pounds (i.e. ASTM F2413-05 I/75 C/75 Mt/75), which are viewable on the inside tag of footwear.
