The classified handbook and benefit guide can be found on the district website (www.usd394.com) under Faculty.Purpose StatementTo determine needed repairs and/or replacements on district vehicles; ensuring the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition; and providing written documentation of repairs to meet district, state and federal requirements. Essential Functions

+ Diagnoses potential vehicle malfunctions (e.g. using computer diagnostic equipment, etc.) for the purpose of determining needed vehicle repairs and/or replacements.

+ Inspects buses and transportation equipment for the purpose of ensuring it is in a safe operating condition.

+ Maintains and repairs heavy equipment (e.g. buses, trucks, vans, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.

+ Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in a safe operating condition.

+ Performs tire work (e.g. changing, balancing, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring all buses and equipment are operating on safe tires.

+ Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

+ Services buses and transportation equipment for the purpose of ensuring it is maintained in a safe operating condition and scheduled preventative maintenance is performed.

+ Substitutes for bus drivers when needed for the purpose of ensuring a qualified person is able to run the bus on the route.

+ Trains mechanic helpers for the purpose of helping them learn the correct and safe way to repair and maintain vehicles.

+ Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at job site.

Other FunctionsPerforms other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.Working EnvironmentThe usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting up to 50 lbs, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing. The job is performed under with some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.Reports To Transportation DirectorSupervises No supervisory responsibilitiesEducation High School diploma or equivalentQualifications Must be able to read, write and comprehend written and oral instructions Valid driving license CDL license (training available to obtain if one not already held)Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desiredTerms 12-month work schedule.
