Salary Information

Wages: \$18.70/hr at Step 1 to \$28.13/hr at Step 20.

Job Duties

Complete plumbing repairs, replace burnt-out light bulbs, replace damaged or missing ceiling tiles, prep and paint over graffiti, change air filters, troubleshoot and replace faulty phone systems and security cameras and electronic and mechanical security door locking systems including proximity card readers, swinging, sliding and overhead doors. Make roof repairs to limit water damage to buildings. Complete proactive inspections of facility for preventative maintenance. In addition to the 150,000 square foot Sheriffs Office and Jail set on 19 acres, this position is responsible for assisting with custodial services in the absence of the facilities and maintenance assistant for Community Corrections, Human Resources Department, and on an as needed basis at the Health Department and other duties as assigned. Troubleshoot, replace, and repair outlets, breakers, and other general electrical devices. General maintenance and repairs to HVAC systems. Will respond to after-hours emergencies in the absence of the Facilities & Maintenance Manager. Maintain and repair plumbing in holding cells for the courts.Complete general labor and ground maintenance duties including mowing grass, lawn edging, weed removal, tree pruning and planting/removal, upkeep of lawn sprinkler system cleaning and trash disposal. Winter duties include plowing and clearing sidewalks and parking lots of snow and ice. Oversees inmate workers assigned to conduct outside maintenance work. Responsible for maintenance of the Mounted Patrol grounds, KHP shooting range grounds and County cemetery.Conduct scheduled maintenance to tools and equipment, is familiar with basic operation of tools and equipment such as tractor with hydraulic attachments, powered man lift, lawn mowers, edgers, snow blowers, weed eaters, saws, grinders and drills, powered plumbing drain cleaners, welder, drill press, arc welder and water softener system. Operate heating and cooling systems in building. Must be familiar with and repair when needed, freshwater supply and distribution points within the building.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Must be 18 years of age.\ 2. Must have a High School diploma or the equivalent.\ 3. Must have a valid Driver License and be insurable under Saline County fleet insurance policy. (If from out-of-State must obtain a Kansas Drivers License within required 90 days.)\ 4. Must have formal training or a proven working knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures in plumbing, electronic and facility maintenance systems.\ 5. Must have a working knowledge of computers and record keeping procedures.\ 6. Must possess excellent communication skills with ability to listen to information, follow instructions, analyze facts, make sound judgments when performing the duties associated with the position as well as provide clear and sound communications/instructions when supervising inmate workers.\ 7. Become CPR, AED and First Aid certified within six (6) months of date of hire.\ 8. Requires working in all environments and weather conditions.\ 9. No felony or domestic violence convictions including diversions and expungements.\ 10. Serious misdemeanor convictions will be evaluated including diversions and expungements.

Physical Requirements

Determined Work Level: Level 4 Heavy Work The applicant must attain a 3.5 score or above score on their physical capacity profile. Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
