GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of functions to assist in directing, coordinating, and
overseeing a variety of recreation instructional programs, seniors, therapeutic recreation, special events,
and other activities for persons of all ages in the community. Works under the supervision of the Recreation
Supervisor. This classification is categorized as part-time or seasonal in support of Recreation programs.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
o Assists in the planning, organizing, coordinating, instructing and supervising year-round activities for
youth and adults, including instructional programs, special events, therapeutic recreation, senior
programs, trips, and leisure programs; may instruct and lead activities as needed.
o Provides leadership & guidance to all participants through programs & activities.
o Supervises participants & activities at all times.
o Organizes supplies and needed equipment, set-up and clean-up events and activities.
o Supervises volunteers; assists in leading other workers in absence of the Recreation Supervisor.
o Administers basic first aid as needed.
o Responds in emergency situations within scope of training.
o Serves as driver for Senior Programming.
o Performs basic clerical and administrative duties which may include data entry, record keeping,
preparing and processing various documents, maintaining files and daily event logs, and registering
program participants.
o Works varied schedule as needed and performs other job-related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION - RESPONSIBILITY FOR WORK OF OTHERS:
May supervise volunteers as needed in absence of the Recreation Supervisor.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the following:
o High school diploma or G.E.D.
o CPR & First Aid certifications required.
o Work experience with special needs persons is desired.
o Excellent communication, organization & supervisory skills.
o Must possess a valid Kansas drivers license.

Knowledge of the rules, equipment, facilities, operations and techniques used in recreation programs; City
policies and procedures; safety procedures; safe driving techniques; sound equipment and set;
