The position of Appellate Reporter II attorney entails responsible legal work assisting the Reporter of Decisions in preparing opinions written by Supreme Court Justices and Court of Appeals Judges for release and publication in the Kansas Reports and the Kansas Court of Appeals Reports. The position requires in-depth legal analysis, writing, and editing.
Job Duties: The Appellate Reporter II attorney performs detailed review and editing of opinions prior to filing to ensure:
Proper citation of legal authorities
Accuracy of legal citations and case facts
Proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation
Consistent style and format throughout each opinion
Required Education and Experience: The applicant must be an attorney admitted to practice law in Kansas. Other requirements include:
Strong legal research and writing skills
Strong proofreading skills
Thorough knowledge of general grammar rules
Familiarity with Bluebook and Redbook
Extremely detail-oriented
Excellent communication skills
An option for hybrid remote work is possible after a training period.
