Description: The duties of this position include referral services, educational presentations, maintenance of offender accountability standards, supervision of offenders, individual case management planning, individual and group counseling, typical case management activities and the related paperwork demands.\ *\ *Skills: 1. Graduate of a four year accredited college or university with a bachelor\'s degree in a social or behavioral science area of study which might include but not be limited to the following degrees: criminal justice, corrections counseling, social work, sociology, psychology, substance abuse counseling or another closely related field of study is preferred. 2. Minimum of one year paid experience providing case management or supervision services to the offender population. * 3. Although not mandatory, being licensed or certified as a substance abuse counselor in the State of Kansas would be desirable. 4. Excellent interpersonal skills required as well as ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 5. Capable of maintaining a team spirit. Ability to work cooperatively with others. 6. Must be adaptable to change and have effective organizational skills. 7. Must be able to organize and follow through on multiple tasks. 8. Display consistent, good judgement and decision-making skills. 9. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with resistive offenders and/or resistive chemically dependent offenders. 10. Knowledge of the criminal mindset and persons with anti-social, et.al., personality disorder(s). 11. Knowledge in the disease of addiction and criminogenic behavior and the various modes of treatment. 12. Must be able to pass an extensive DOJ, BOP background/security check. * 13. Every employee must be free of chemical dependency for at least 2 years prior to employment. 14. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Outlook and with a basic understanding of Excel and Access preferred. 15. On a rotating basis must be available for on-call duties. 16. This position may also involve bending, walking stairs and lifting up to 40 pounds on occasion.\ \ *Duties:* 1. Maintain communication with offender referral sources within the local community. 2. Provide referral for the offenders in the following basis areas of human need if he/she requires referral or skill development: Medical/health care Psychiatric/mental health counseling Sex offender treatment Substance abuse treatment Family relationships Vocational training Employment assistance Legal issues Education issues Budgeting needs Clothing needs Access to public assistance monies Childcare services, etc Recreational needs 3. Dialogue with appropriate BOP officials in order to keep them apprised of their assigned offenders performance in the community corrections residential program. 4. Provide individual counseling for the residential offenders and assist them in the identification and resolution of problems, behaviors, or cognition, which prevent them from reaching their case management plan goals or positive outcomes. 5. Maintain offender-related paperwork such as case management plans, residential program performance evaluations, discharge (re-entry plans) summaries, program outcome evaluation forms, etc... 6. Assist in curricula development and implementation of the same within the milieu of the community corrections residential program. 7. Must attend and participate in all staff meetings. 8. Assist the Mirror Federal Programs Director on coverage related issues when necessary. 9. Provide educational groups and learning experiences geared to meet the federal offender\'s level of understanding. These should be focused on addiction related education, stress management, nutrition, ADIS, (ways to change) criminal thinking, bud eting, social skills, life skills, etc 10. Provide written case management plans for all the offenders assigned to your caseload at the Mirror Residential Reentry Center Residential program. 11. Facilitate and make timely and appropriate offender referrals to community-based services. 12. Provide addicted offenders with a plan of action (i.e., via a case management plan) to maintain continued sobriety and to obtain an acceptable quality of life free from criminal behavior. 13. Provide non-addicted offenders with a plan of action (i.e., via a case management plan) to obtain an acceptable quality of life free from criminal behavior. 14. Provide offenders with group counseling services at regularly scheduled intervals targeted to meet their case management plan goals. 15. Assist in the collection of client fees as it directly impacts the relationship between the offender and Mirror. 16. Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by the site Director.
