About the role:

Join Takeda as the Digital Ethics & Emerging Technology Lead in Global Research & Development (R&D) as a director, where you will ensure responsible and ethical behaviors and practices in digital and emerging technology, which plays a fundamental role in risk mitigation. You will also be a key forward-thinking leader in risk identification and management of digital health technologies and build an innovative function supporting achievement of Takeda’s Vision. Additionally, the Digital Ethics & Emerging Technology Lead will create procedures, communications and training frameworks so Takeda’s R&D function can manage the risk of implementing new and emerging health-related technologies and handling of data and ensure employees are adhering to corporate policies & procedures. Moreover, they will assess technologies, digital ethics and compliance risks, and maintain compliance with privacy and emerging technology legislation. As part of the Digital Ethics & Compliance team, you will report to Head of Digital Ethics & Compliance and partner with R&D privacy officers, R&D Data, Digital, & Technology (DD&T), global program teams, and other respective Digital Ethics & Compliance (DE&C) representatives.

How you will contribute:

  • Business partner: Acts as the DE&C business partner to R&D DD&T and global program teams, proactively acting as an ethics advisor to the responsible use of Data, Digital & Technology development and deployment within healthcare environments, along with relevant bioethics and compliance requirements.

  • Guidance: Serves as primary point of contact for R&D needs in relation to internal data acquisition, data management and project development to ensure data management processes are ethically implemented and comply with Takeda digital ethics, data ethics, privacy policies and applicable regulations.

  • Compliance & Monitoring: Development and deployment of guidance, metrics and tools to support and monitor compliance with emerging technologies and regulations and internal standards in coordination with the Global DE&C team.

  • Leverages and implements tools/resources from Global DE&C to partner with colleagues within R&D to put in place processes and procedures that enable ethics and privacy by design across data acquisition, data management/reporting, data access, use of machine learning, artifitial intelligence and other emerging technologies.

  • Risk Assessment: Evaluates and advises the R&D organization on digital ethics and emerging technology risks associated with new technologies, programs, and systems and support R&D with completion of risk and impact assessments and associated steps identified to appropriately mitigate risk and ensure responsible use of emerging technologies across the lifecycle. Identify and escalate data and digital related risks to appropriate stakeholders.

  • Training: Support dissemination and delivery of digital ethics, data ethics and emerging technology training initiatives at US R&D and global R&D level.

  • Vendor Due Diligence: Conduct E&C related vendor due diligence assessments for R&D vendors.

  • Regulatory Changes/Engagement with local authorities: Work in partnership with other US DE&C colleagues and support analysis of business impact and implementation of new digital, technology and regulations affecting the US market, coordinating a joint effort when applicable. Support response to requests/inspections from regulators in connection with digital and emerging technology matters.

  • Represent R&D in internal and external networks, committees and groups to support the business, for benchmarking purposes and to maintain and enhance required subject matter expertise.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree required. Preference for an advanced degree in, Technical, Bioethics, Digital ethics, Business or related data expertise area

  • 8 years of experience in Ethics & Compliance related, or other highly regulated function including 3-4 years of experience in, healthcare & bioethics, digital ethics or emerging technologies as part of the role or through involvement in a major digital technology project

  • 3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/health sector industry

  • Proven track record of project and process development, implementation, and management.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills and ability to prioritize.

  • Team player with strong collaborative and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong ethical behavior, with the ability to remain impartial and report all non-compliance. Role model for Takeda values.

  • Skilled in influencing without authority, acting as lead business partner working with diverse stakeholders in a cross-functional capacity and achieving results in international highly matrixed organization

  • Leadership capabilities, including ability to interact with and advise senior business leaders & influence business stakeholders across the organization; confidence and ability to interact with regulatory authorities and experts as appropriate.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ability to advise on risk based decisions involving reputational and financial risk and to act with a high degree of integrity and with autonomy.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

169,400.00 - 266,200.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others.
