Job Description:

The purpose of this position is to assign ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes for outpatient claims in order to ensure a valid data base to be used for research, reporting, quality improvement activities, management of days not final billed (DNFB) and appropriate reimbursement.

Scope

As an a Remote HIM Technician you need to know how to:

Perform functions related to document imaging, chart retrieval pickup, reception and release of information for continuum of care duties. Prepare and scan documents, ensuring correct patient identifiers. Forward unresolved issues for quality review.

Perform quality control to ensure the electronic document/image posts to the correct patients visit. Identify and correct/resolve errors identified by the quality control process. Escalate unresolved issues per procedure.

Perform release of information on continuum of care and patient requests, ensure compliance with guidelines/requirements related to patient confidentiality and release of information.

Analyze the electronic health record for completeness and accurately assigns deficiencies in accordance with departmental policies and procedures, medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations. Identify issues and errors.

Monitor provider rejection queue, advises provider/clinician on documentation completion requirements and update deficiencies. Monitor the completion of operative reports, troubleshoot equipment and application issues.

Prepare incomplete chart report; assist with chart delinquency audits as necessary. Assist providers in chart completion. Identify situations of potential concern and act appropriately to resolve provider complaints. Assist care site users and physicians having issues using the electronic medical record systems.

Coordinate audit requests for patient information. Perform release of information on continuum of care and patient requests based on appropriate authorization and policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent- Minimum of two (2) years of previous office experience and/or in an HIM department- Intermediate knowledge of medical terminology and intermediate computer skills/experience

Preferred:

Associates Degree- Current Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification

Physical Requirements:

Hearing/listening, lifting, manual dexterity, pulling/pushing, seeing, sitting, speaking, squatting/kneeling, standing, and walking.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$18.29 - $24.26
