Job Description

The Marketing Model Validation Manager will lead a model validation team and work closely with model development to provide an independent effective challenge to the bank’s marketing models, many which use Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) techniques. Responsibilities include managing a team, leading all phases of model validation in compliance with OCC 2011-12 and U.S. Bank's Model Risk Management Policy and Guidelines, assessing model risks and limitations, completing validation reports, providing recommendations and conclusions to model stakeholders, and managing the issue lifecycle from origination to completion. The candidate is expected to be highly motivated with a strong attention to detail.

This role is responsible for the management of quantitative model validation analysts in all activities related to marketing model risk management. Provides oversight of estimation approaches (i.e., models and tools), including the oversight of validation work conducted on a periodic basis for all estimation approaches, including AI/ML models. The role is responsible for providing adequate scoping of validation activities to the analysts and assisting the analysts with identifying all material risks and performance deficiencies of the models. The scope of validation activities includes periodic, targeted and full validation reports as well as annual reviews, including close oversight with an offshore team located in India. Interacts regularly with model owners and issue coordinators to ensure the satisfactory remediation of all validation issues and is responsible for the final quality assurance of all validation reports under their area of responsibility, in terms of quantitative rigor and professional presentation. The position interacts regularly with regulators and internal/external auditors on the quality and effectiveness of development and validation activities. Efficient and effective execution of work is imperative for the position as delays in Validation analysis can jeopardize regulatory deadlines or client solutions or expose the firm to risk. A successful candidate possesses expert level presentation, relationship building, and communication skills. The candidate is expected to have an ability to influence across the organization and to drive model risk management best practices.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (MA/MS/PhD strongly preferred) and eight or more years of relevant experience

  • Four or more years of experience leading a quantitative modeling team

Preferred Skills/Experience

-Strong knowledge of programming languages, such as C++, C#, R, Python, SAS and Matlab.

-Critical thinking, problem solving and creativity.

-Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, business line managers, and colleagues across the bank. Highly motivated with the ability to learn and to understand various business lines and their functions within the organization.

-Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks effectively.

-Considerable knowledge of various AI/ML algorithms, including random forest, GBM, deep learning, and NLP. Extensive knowledge of various regression techniques, parametric and non-parametric algorithms, times series techniques, and other statistical models, along with various model validation tests/methodologies.

-Advanced data compilation, programming skills and quantitative analysis skills.

-Thorough knowledge of the quantitative and qualitative risk factors, industry risks, competition risks, and risk management approaches, especially as pertaining to marketing models usage.

-Thorough knowledge of applicable regulatory rules, guidance, supervisory letters and the regulatory oversight process.

-In depth knowledge of Bank products and services.

-Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, negotiation, and project management skills.

-Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills (ability to explain complex ideas in simple, non-technical language).

Salary range reflected is an estimate of base pay and is for the primary location. Base pay range may vary if an offer is made for work in a different location. Pay Range: $135,490.00 - $159,400.00 - $175,340.00
