Nelnet NDS Culture Content Specialist in Topeka, Kansas

This role is responsible for creating, writing, and curating content for multiple communication channels that support the overall Nelnet Diversified Services (NDS) Culture Team. Provides editing and proofreading services as needed. Manages recurring communication-based activities for culture initiatives including calendar invitations, business presentations, information collection, and sign-up processes. Acts as a back-up for NDS Culture program coordination for Program Manager.


  1. Develop written content based on approved messaging and collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) for messaging, branding, tone and grammar to make appropriate for internal and external consumption

  2. Plan, write, and edit content to be distributed across multiple platforms including email, SharePoint, Teams, gamification programs, and newsletters.

  3. Edit, proofread, and improve other content written by others.

  4. Assist in creating and facilitating execution of editorial calendars and content marketing efforts to multiple audiences.

  5. Work with SMEs to write both short and long-form compelling content.

  6. Research, study and maintain an expert knowledge of content marketing trends, best practices and technologies.

  7. Consult with business leaders and stakeholders on communication needs, objectives, and strategies and recommend communication plans .

  8. Collaborate with other writers, subject matter experts, communication coordinators, and graphic designers who may share responsibility on specific projects.

  9. Collaborate with NDS Communications team to align messaging for timeliness and integration into other NDS communications

  10. Coordinate recurring communication-based tasks for culture initiatives at a high-level of efficiency.

  11. Other tasks as assigned


Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, English, Journalism, or related field. or similar experience


Minimum of one year of content development experience, including developing concepts, writing, editing, and proofreading. Experience with content writing and coordination.

  4. Excellent proofreading skills.

  5. Team player with the ability to handle tasks independently to closure.

  6. Strong sense of urgency and the ability to adapt and work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while producing quality work and meeting deadlines.

  7. Strategic vision.

  8. Broad understanding of marketing communication and content marketing strategy.

  9. Ability to work independently or in a group.

  10. Highly organized and process orientated.

  11. Ability to creatively brainstorm, write, and problem solve.
