Performance Improvement Consultant – Healthcare Revenue Cycle

Overview of Position

The Performance Improvement Consultant leads process improvement projects within the Enrollment & Eligibility (E&E) healthcare revenue cycle business unit. This role will facilitate all aspects of the development / implementation of projects utilizing cross-functional teams. The Performance Improvement Specialist will be responsible for monitoring and performing control activities throughout an implementation lifecycle, developing project plans, assessing project issues and recommending resolutions and / or mitigation plans to meet productivity, quality, satisfaction and KPI goals. The process improvement culture within the role is moderate to high, requiring moderate change management and Six Sigma activities. May have external customer-facing interaction.

Location: Remote/Telecommuter position. Must live close to a major metro airport and be willing to travel 25-50% post COVID restrictions.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Oversees and coordinates all aspects of the project and serves as project manager between, business office management and internal / external resource teams

  • Creates project plans, task lists, detailed work plans in order to drive a new department initiative from start-up to completion that will involve, operations, IT and hitting revenue goals

  • Takes projects from original concept through final implementation and manages existing projects

  • Monitors and manages the project from initiation through delivery, interfacing with customer on all matters, provides status reports

  • Provides a single point of contact for projects and defines project scope and objectives

  • Conducts regular and proactive project meetings and is responsible to drive deliverables of the project

  • Develop and assist in deliverable schedules

  • Track tasks assigned to the project team and will prepare regular status reports

  • Publish status for all projects in progress

  • Provides project report outs to management and senior leaders

  • Frequently interacts with internal /external customers and/or functional peer group managers

  • Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet quality, processing, and satisfaction/KPI goals

  • Exercises judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions

  • Interfaces with all areas affected by the project which includes our customers, vendors, billing operations directors and senior level executives

  • May provide project management guidance to the project team

  • Work is reviewed and measured based on meeting objectives and schedules

  • Other duties as assigned

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • 5+ years of healthcare revenue cycle management experience, with experience specifically in the Enrollment & Eligibility (E&E) space would be preferable

  • BA or BS degree or 8+ years of equivalent, relevant experience required.

  • 2+ years of experience in project management, healthcare/hospital revenue cycle operations management and/or training role

  • Demonstrated success in leading, motivating and influencing cross-functional teams in revenue cycle performance improvement projects (specifically involving Patient Access preferred), leveraging Six Sigma, Lean or other continuous improvement methodologies. Experience in running a “Rapid Improvement Event” is also desired.

  • Strong analytics/reporting skills are required. Must be able to take a large set of data & analyze it and “slice & dice it” and report back on what the data means both orally & in writing.

  • Strong personal computer literacy required including working knowledge of relevant software packages such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word and Visio)

  • Must be process oriented with thorough knowledge of project management and process improvement.

  • Excellent organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and driving for results.

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Six Sigma Certification preferredPMI/PMP Certification preferred

  • Experience with project management tools is preferred

  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence such as Voice-Bots is preferred

  • Experience with Call Centers is preferred

How much should I expect to travel?

  • Post COVID restrictions, this position may travel 25-50%. Employees in roles that require travel will need to be able to qualify for a company credit card or be able to use their own personal credit card for travel expenses and submit for reimbursement.
