Job Description
Oracle Hardware is seeking a highly driven hardware/firmware security expert at the Principal Engineer level looking to grow by leading a key security functional area. You will be driving the Security Assurance processes within the Oracle Hardware/Firmware team, performing technical security reviews of third party components and Oracle products and having the opportunity to work on code level security.
All engineering teams at Oracle are required to follow Oracle Corporate security assurance best practices and processes. These define how to make smart choices that build security into our products and services. These Oracle Software Security Assurance Standards (https://www.oracle.com/corporate/security-practices/assurance/) (OSSA) and Oracle Hardware Security Assurance (OHWSA) (https://www.oracle.com/corporate/security-practices/corporate/supply-chain/hardware-security.html) standards provide guidance across the entire lifecycle of third party component selection / in-take, product design, development, testing, release and deployment. The individual in this role will lead, manage, and participate in these corporate assurance processes and reviews across hardware and firmware.
The Oracle Hardware Development organization you will join delivers the hardware and firmware used in Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and Oracle Engineered Systems including Oracle Exadata. You will be working with the teams who are building the next generation of cloud and enterprise systems, with record breaking-performance, security, and world class quality using the latest and greatest merchant silicon and technologies.
Responsibilities
Job Summary:
As part of the Oracle Hardware Security Office and working very closely with the team's Chief Security Architect, this role is focused on managing and participating in all aspects of Oracle's Hardware Security Assurance and Oracle Software Security Assurance program within the Oracle Hardware/Firmware team.
You will be working with Security Leads, Security Point of Contacts (SPOCs), Directors and Managers across Oracle Hardware to ensure that Oracle Hardware and Firmware teams are using the industry's best security practices as detailed in OSSA and OHWSA. This applies to the components that Oracle engineers itself and the third-party hardware and firmware components we leverage from industry partners.
This role spans both hardware and firmware, and includes working with Oracle internal teams and external partners. The job extends from Oracle team education and security process support, to performing security technical and process reviews, through to ensuring that Oracle's partners understand Oracle's security requirements for the future.
Responsibilities:
Educating hardware and firmware engineering teams about the OHWSA and OSSA standards governing how security is built into Oracle products
Helping engineering teams plan for security reviews of the HW/FW technologies which are being considered for use
Ensuring that teams create the required materials for
Inbound HW/FW security reviews
Inbound third-party software security reviews
Product release security reviews
Facilitating and performing these security reviews
Tracking the progress of security reviews and producing reports
Identifying and driving improvements to the security review processes
Working with the Hardware Chief Security Architect, Hardware Security Office, other key security leads and key internal partners including OCI
Working with Oracle's 3rd party ecosystem to communicate Oracle's security requirements and assess present adoption and future compliance
Acting as the Oracle Hardware/Firmware team's technical security resource on Oracle security assurance and Oracle's 3rd party ecosystem
Developing tools as needed to support the processes
Opportunities to work on secure design reviews, Architectural Risk Analysis, and threat analysis
Opportunities to work with Core Firmware Engineering teams doing penetration (code level) testing and on critical security features
Required Qualifications:
B.S. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
7+ years in the field of software engineering with security expertise
Experience in security analysis/assessments and the ability to audit security or forensic reports
Expertise across secure development lifecycle e.g. component security reviews, static and dynamic analysis tools
Highly motivated, with a sense of urgency and ability to deliver multiple tasks under time-frame pressure
Big problem solver, who can be both strategic and able to dive into details as needed
Capable of working independently
Experience with understanding, analyzing, and communicating hardware security vulnerabilities, attacks, and research to engineering people
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Programming experience (C/C++, Linux Programming, bash, Python, Java)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with the architecture, design, and implementation of modern server platform hardware & firmware
Experience with Cloud security and architecture concepts
Knowledge of Open-Source software usage and the related security concerns
Experience in security assessment of firmware
Hands on experience in penetration testing and/or forensics analysis
Hold certifications like GIAC SANS, OSCP, OSCE, CISSP, CEH
Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and ability to adapt to changing environment and needs
Experience with server platform level security technologies, including but not limited to secure boot, firmware signing, platform firmware security architectures, roots of trust
Experience with hardware interfaces, including, but not limited to BMCs, PCIe, SAS, NVMe, NAND Flash, NOR Flash, SPI, I2C (incl. SMBus, PMBus), LPC, eSPI, etc

Hiring Range: from $94,200 to $223,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.
Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.
Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.
