Senior Packaging Engineer

We are looking for a strong teammate who will collaborate with Product Development, Marketing, Design, and Supply Chain teams to identify, develop, and implement consumer-centric package technologies. Ensure packaging meets cost, functionality, manufacturability, and material compatibility standards. Supervise testing, and maintain documentation to ensure product integrity.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Product Development, Marketing, Design, Supply Chain, and other functional groups to identify package technologies to deliver consumer centric solutions that meet key attributes: Costs, consumer usage/functionality, manufacturability and compatibility/functionality of materials with product.

  • Conduct packaging development and implementation through scale-up and Technology

  • Transfer process by partnering with the quality, product development and the manufacturing sites teams to: Ensure that packaging equipment/material system specifications, functionality and design are appropriate for use and e nsu re that the packaging provides product integrity and appeal under varying shipping and display conditions

  • Provide solving expertise when issues arise in package testing, plant filling trials and issues that may arise during the supply chain in delivering to customers.

  • Supervise package testing, analyze test data and prepare reports to include recommendations and conclusions.

  • Maintain and continuously improve tooling/package qualification plans, technology transfer documentation (Design History Files) and final package component specifications, Manufacturing Specifications, case/cube information cost and savings estimates etc.

  • Understands the capabilities of the Packaging Laboratory test equipment and exhibits a solid understanding of their operation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Packaging Engineering, Material Science or a similar field

  • 5+ years of engineering experience in a global food or fast moving consumer goods company

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years in the food or pet food industry

  • Strong understanding of food and primary packaging compatibility.

  • Experience on wet food retort process(cans, pouches & trays) in the food industry preferred

  • Technical knowledge in packaging design, ISTA testing, plant equipment qualifications and final approval.

  • Project Management skills with experience leading multi-functional teams.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills to work with diverse cultures and global partners.

  • Insights & Analytics: translate insights into strategies and actions to develop/improve

  • Planning/Priority Setting – Multi-tasking of several projects with minimal direction.

  • Must be proficient with the following computer programs:

  • Cape Pack or other pallet pattern design software

  • SAP or similar ERP system

  • Willing to travel approximately 25% of the year.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range $105,000.00 - $125,000.00 USD

Pay is based on multiple non-discriminatory, individualized factors including but not limited to experience, job-related knowledge and education, skills and office/market location. In addition to base salary, salaried employees are eligible for annual discretionary bonuses, profit-sharing and, for Executive-level (salary grade 16 and above) roles only, long-term incentives in the form of Restricted Stock Units and/or Stock Options.

Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable benefits plans then in effect, all salaried employees are also eligible for a competitive benefits package which includes:

  • Retirement Plans: Employees are eligible to enroll in Colgate's 401(k) plan, which provides for company matching contributions subject to eligibility requirements

  • Vacation/PTO: Employees receive a minimum of 15 days of vacation/PTO leave annually

  • Paid Holidays: Employees receive a minimum of 13 paid/floating holidays annually

  • Paid Sick Leave: Based on location and consistent with applicable state and local law, employees receive a minimum of 40 hours of paid sick leave on January 1st of each year

  • Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees may take up to eight weeks of paid parental leave and 12 weeks of unpaid leave (varies for employees with fewer than 12 months of service and is subject to hours worked requirements)
