Oracle Senior Software Developer in Topeka, Kansas

Job Description

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.

  • Maintain and develop open source-based products and solutions

  • Work with internal Oracle teams and open source communities on

improvements and optimizations of Linux userspace components and

implementing new solutions

  • Help improve our infrastructure and take part in developing new


  • Take decisions on choosing the right approach and hold responsibility

for them

  • Advocate best practices with other engineers, when it comes to

development, triage, tuning, QA and deployment


  • Strong technical background

  • in-depth understanding of Linux OS internals, boot and software delivery

  • Experience with different families of Linux distributions as a plus (

deb-based/rpm-based )

  • 5+ years of DevOps, Software Development or Q/A

  • Advanced C/C++ or advanced Python skills

  • proven shell scripting knowledge

  • excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills; readiness to apply

those skills when pulled to the problem resolution with the customers

  • Ability and desire to resolve bugs, from debugging to deployment of

fixes in production

  • Readiness to communicate with consumers in order to resolve issues in

a timely manner

  • excellent written and verbal communication skills, team-oriented approach

  • proactive approach to tasks, issues and projects

  • be proactive in raising the uncertainties, reach to the right people

and make the decisions

  • Self-motivation to initiate and care through the improvements, find

and address the problems

  • experience with Linux software package management systems is a plus

  • Some understanding of cloud and container technologies is needed, good

knowledge in this area is a plus

  • Open Source development experience is a big plus
