Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a director of the software engineering division, you will apply your extensive knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture.

Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.

Responsibilities

Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots, and provides support for Micronaut Java Framework and Graal Cloud Native (GCN) toolkit. Micronaut Framework and GCN toolkit empower the Java developers in building cloud native applications. Developers can build and test locally on their desktop and then use Oracle Lab based tools to deploy on Oracle Cloud.

As a director of the software engineering, you will apply your extensive knowledge of visual, and CLI, tooling and software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging, or designing Micronaut and GCN tooling. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture.

We are the Graal Cloud Native (GCN) group in Oracle Labs. Our mission is to provide critical tools and experiences to Java developer the tools and content they need to build cloud native applications and services. We are looking for a Software Development Director with expertise and passion in building and growing our tooling platform for a cloud environment.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in designing, building, and implementing enterprise developer tools which work in cloud environment. You should be both a rock-solid manager, and a Java developer at heart, who is comfortable diving deep into any part of the stack. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Drive the effective resolution of customer's critical issues alongside strategic long-term strategy

  • Operate efficiently in a demanding environment, maintain composure, demonstrate leadership, and communicate in an exemplary manner

  • Track and communicate status and resolution to stakeholders in a timely and consistent manner

  • Drive the improvement of software development and deployment processes

  • Provide organizational and technical leadership, career development, coaching, and mentoring

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience

  • 10+ years of hands-on management experience in software engineering and software delivery domain. Proven ability to hire and grow rock stars.

  • Background in designing enterprise scale tools and cloud-based services

  • Experience in Agile/SCRUM enterprise-scale software development

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment

  • Excellent communication and cross-functional teamwork skills, able to communicate complex ideas and topics to multiple audiences

  • Strong analytical skills, with excellent problem-solving abilities

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Experience with larger projects (large code bases)

  • Experience in working with Cloud technologies related to the above

  • Experience working as a developer (Java, Jscript, C, SQL) and/or any particular developer tools

  • Deep understanding of Java and JVM mechanics
